For more than 300 years, no one knew what happened to them.
With no bodies recovered and no records created, families were left with uncertainty.

He Sailed After His Father’s Execution

William III Cheney was raised in the shadow of scandal.

Perhaps he hoped to restore honor to his family’s name when he joined the Phips Expedition in 1690.

His ship never returned.

Everyone is leaving #tiktok and I am one. Did any of the Blusky adjacent video apps ever take off? I do remember a few getting started months ago.

History teachers across the country and at every grade level should organize a teach-in this week by having students explore the Boston Massacre as part of the #America250 commemoration.

After Puritan justice was done, someone still had to live with the consequences.

Deborah Wiswall Cheney survived her husband’s execution and the loss of nearly all her children in infancy. This is where a family’s story truly begins.

Honoring Phillis Wheatley
No more, America in mournful strain Of wrongs and grievance unredress'd complain,
No longer shalt thou dread the iron chain, Which wanton Tyranny with lawless hand Had made, and with it meant t' enslave the land.

We had a king fighting for more voting rights? 👑
In the 1660s, Charles II ordered Massachusetts to let all landowning men vote—not just church members. The irony? Back in England, Charles II dissolved Parliament for years before his death.

Massachusetts Bay ran as an almost independent Puritan republic from 1629 to 1684 — until the King annulled its charter, making their entire government was illegal on paper. They folded into the Dominion of New England, sparking one of the earliest “mini-revolutions” in American history. #history 🧵

King Charles II pushed for more voting rights in the 1660s. He ordered Massachusetts to expand the vote beyond church members to all landholding men. The Puritans resisted, clinging to religious purity tests for decades. Their stubbornness helped cost them their charter in 1684. #history #puritans

Did the second generation of Puritans rebel against their parents like the hippies? Well, according to their elder, Minister John Eliot, the young men were growing their hair too long! The longer locks we think of puritan men sporting were actually a little rebellious for the time. 🧵

Shout out to New Sweden (1638-1655). A little bit of Pennsylvania, Delaware and New Jersey was once ruled by Queen Christina. These American Swedes would revolt against the English in 1669, we know how this ends. Their legacy is the introduction of the log cabin to America. #history #colonial
