In a word that seems to have grown in negativity, I wish to take some time and talk about bringing out the positive in the world. 2025 has been a rough year in the world, and while it would be easy for me to ramble about all of that, I am going to not. Instead, I wish to talk about the good things about the world and life and bring back some positivity.

The New Year is coming - and with it, the release of my second novel: The Grimoire Detective: Heart Scars. I am so excited because with the release of this second volume, it is no longer about getting one book out into the world, but having a series for others to discover and read is becoming more and more a real thing.

Some of the questions that a lot of new writers ask when working on their Works in Progress is: What if it sucks? What if people won’t like it? What if it’s not any good? What if it’s bad is a thought that many writers ask themselves when they get moments of self-doubt. They are working on their stories or worldbuilding and the thought pops in and the self doubt shouts back at them, stopping the creative process dead in its tracks.

Ever since I began my series The Grimoire Detective, I have become more interested in reading more and more of the Urban Fantasy genre to see how other authors handle the tropes. The more I have read in this genre, the more I realize how little I fall into the genre and yet - I am still in the Urban Fantasy genre.

Here we are on a Double Blog day with not only my usual Sunday Blog but my end of the month State of the Pulp! Let’s see how this month went! This was a Wild and Crazy month, being that it is November and we have our server-wide Writer’s Retreat. For my own personal word count, including this blog, I made it to over 80 K for the month of November!

In talking about my influences last week, it got me thinking about other stories that also influenced who I am today and what I look for in the stories I enjoy reading. While this is like a second part to last week, it is also its own thing about the stories that broke open the walls of what I thought Fantasy was for a long time.
