Storms like these –– where mountain precipitation falls as rain rather than snow –– are becoming increasingly common in a warmer climate.
The aftereffects of flooding in Western Washington has resulted in ski season getting pushed back again because roads are closed and there's not enough snow.

Only my fellow Central Valley dwellers will get the full significance of this pic. It's the moment I had to return to the inversion layer that has been trapping us in the Tule Fog for weeks. We were up in the Sierra Nevada. The sun was wonderful! 60⁰ in Sonora, 45⁰ back home.
