Who wants to get misty-eyed this morning with me?

It was such a joy to celebrate Hanukkah with Mandy, Kathryn and their son, Gideon. As Jewish New Yorkers across our city prepare to light candles and mark the seventh night today, I wish you and your families a Hanukkah full of light and love.

Forty years ago, 90% of media outlets were spread across 50 companies.

Now, just 5 companies control 90% of the media market.

This consolidation hurts consumers and helps oligarchs. 🧵

This.

Scientists, like all subject matter experts, have knowledge bias and often don't know how to communicate outside their peer circle, but they are not responsible for the mistrust.

Failed education systems, disinformation campaigns, and the people orchestrating both are to blame.
I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

"I've no idea why though..."

Look, if I were young and didn't have kids, I'd do the same. Would have left the first time the POS took office.
"In 2025, 40% of women aged 15 to 44 say they would move abroad permanently if they had the opportunity. The current figure is four times higher than the 10% who shared this desire in 2014, when it was generally in line with other age and gender groups."

Naive? Incompetent? Cowardly?

I'm not giving the benefit of the doubt. This group failed us.

Ah, that's what hope feels like; I'd forgotten. The blue wave at the national level is a relief.

Locally though, the wealthy, white, geriatric town I live in is all too happy to pull up the ladder, burn it, and continue pretending the increasing costs of operating a city is simply mismanagement.

A step forward.

Now let's talk about regional escrow account(s) on the federal taxes we individuals are forced to pay.

Redirect those funds into Cascadia for universal healthcare, food benefits, housing, and infrastructure.

Release those funds to the federal gov when it stops withholding from us
Today I announced an agreement between Washington state, Oregon, and British Columbia to renew and strengthen our partnership.

Together, the Cascadia region will address housing affordability, invest in clean energy, and create the conditions for long-term economic growth.
