Because they want to believe in a world where they can be rich enough that no woman would reject them. Ayesha clearly doesn't need a man but chooses one. And they want to squash that mentality from spreading to the generation they are trying (unsuccessfully) to groom.

More people should do this—especially with shows starring women, POC, etc that may be passed over at a first glance of a photo of the cast. Plus if it doesn't get picked up, we know who to blame *pitchfork emoji*

Mind you, "Gender Queer" is a very okay book. It will resonate with whom it resonates with. It is probably an eye-opener for baby queers and healing for grown queer folks' inner child. But it's simply a memoir that happens to include the author's identity journey. The hate around it makes NO SENSE.
