If Amanda Burrows wins the OneCity mayoral nomination on Feb. 11, the executive director of First United will be in the running to achieve a Vancouver first on election day next fall: a woman as mayor.

And one of the few mayors in the city’s history who rents, not owns, their housing.

No big deal, but the Alberta government just increased the fee to submit a citizen initiated petition from $500 to $25, 000. After the separatism initiative was approved, but before Corb Lund's coal mining petition gets re-approved. No political shenanigans going on here.

I did this interview at Yonge & St Clair, the reporter hoping he'd catch a gig worker bombing down the sidewalk. Instead a pickup truck was parked in the bike lane behind us, and for the entire conversation rider after rider was forced into traffic.

Institutional inertia has taken over our city's institutions, and it's a serious problem. Why can't the City of Vancouver get anything done anymore?
It's been 509 days since @christineboyle.bsky.social 's bus lane motion passed in Vancouver. Maybe 365 additional days since the previous ABC one did.

Do we have anything to show for it? Nope. Nothing.

Dude where's our bus lanes? 🚍🤷

Worst case: EVs are cleaner than gas cars

Best case: they’re a hell of a lot cleaner.

(BC being close to best case)
EVs beat petrol cars on lifetime emissions — even on “dirty” grids.
Battery production is carbon-intensive, but EVs quickly repay that debt and end up 21–71% cleaner over 250,000 km.

We can’t wait for perfect grids: electrify transport and clean the grid now.

I might have been a bit optimistic on how long Rustad would last.
The year is 2028. Dallas Broadie leads a surging "Real Conservatives Only" Party that is cannibalizing support from the BC Conservatives. Just before the election is called, John Rustad announces his party is suspending their campaign and withdrawing all their candidates.

And the cycle continues...
