Britannia pool random debris fell from the ceiling into the pool today so they just closed 3/6 lanes and left the debris where it is😅 quality experience in Ken Sim's Vancouver
as a habitual user of vancouver's pools, rinks and gyms I second this report. there's no pool in my neighborhood, and I have to travel half an hour to even get to a pool built in this century. my usual one (Britannia) is perpetually undergoing emergency repair & has mold in plenty of disused corners
Majority of Vancouver rec centres, pools and rinks in 'poor' condition with no funding plan: audit
The 46 recreation facilities reviewed in the audit have a combined replacement value of $2.1 billion, but face a $33 million annual funding deficit

There is a way to make Vancouver buses up to 18% faster that no one is talking about.
It does not require digging tunnels.

The solution is hidden in plain sight at our intersections.

Remember the kerfuffle about the Olympic Village Save-on More grocery store putting up a display in support of an organization opposing the OV school? Well this public hearing 🙄 is the battle ground. Please let council know that a school must be built here and it must not be over-capacity on day 1!
The long-awaited school in Olympic Village is going to City Council for public hearing on February 12!

If you have five minutes, please consider writing in support of the school: vancouver.ca/your-governm... (Choose CD-1 (454) Text Amendment: 215 West 1st Avenue)
Contact City Council about public hearing agenda items (rezoning and heritage)
Tell City Council what you think about rezoning applications or heritage designations being considered at public hearings.

Broadway is closed between Main and Quebec for four months. The city has done nothing to prevent rat-running on Ontario and 10th Ave bikeways, creating a giant mess. We'll be pressuring council and staff to fix this ASAP.

Only undefeated teams at the Scotties are all from Manitoba. What a powerhouse province.

Einerson vs Lawes is just starting now. Should be a great game.

“Two billion autonomous cars would continue to sprawl around us, drain our wallets, pollute our cities and limit our freedoms.

They distract from meaningful progress, making cities walkable, livable and improving transit. In foregrounding them we continue our bondage to the car-industrial complex.”

14th and Yukon is exactly the sort of housing this city needs: a rental apartment replacing a multi-million dollar house. This is how we fight displacement and create a more affordable city.

Of course, it drew intense NIMBY opposition.

Interesting to see who was absent for this tough vote, huh?

Enough. I’m moving to immediately unlock these sites for 4,000 affordable homes. No more excuses. #VanPoli #HousingNow

Canada's big six banks made $70 billion in profits last year on the backs of working people.

So I went to Bay Street to ask bankers whether it’s time for a wealth tax.

If you agree, become a member of the NDP and let’s fight for it together: avilewis.link/join
