Randomly listening to #BiologyInNumbers episodes (by @parmvir.com for @smbmathbiology.bsky.social) and really enjoyed @suzannesindi.bsky.social's! I wish I'd heard it during my Ph.D. - esp: "most of the time what you try does not work... it feels like you're always solving a puzzle".

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

Being interviewed for a podcast is as fun as nerve wracking (as you all can hear! 😅), but... what an experience! And what a lovely mashup of stories from amazing people. Thanks @parmvir.com for letting me be a part of it!

This year's @smbmathbiology.bsky.social meeting provided us with another delightful mashup of math biologists (and me) talking about science, and in Amy's case, ultra-running and conference coffee ☕
Thanks to all the excellent attendees who agreed to speak with me for Biology in Numbers.

I do regret not asking @parmvir.com about her ultra-running in the podcast: open.spotify.com/episode/7rpv... but even better, she's interviewed here too!

Excited to be this week's cover for the Math Oncology Blog (# 345): a 3D @physicell.bsky.social simulation written entirely in a new model grammar without code.

Jointly made with @heberlr.bsky.social, based on our recent @cp-cell.bsky.social paper. #Mathonco #mathbio 🧪

Join @cmaley.bsky.social, @lucielaplane.bsky.social, Joel Brown and Benjamin Spada for a live EvoChat discussion about "How we define cancer matters", hosted by the International Society for Evolution, Ecology and Cancer (ISEEC).

Oct 1st at 8am PST, 11am EST, 5pm CEST

Abstract: Current definitions of cancer describe what cancer does but not what it is. Furthermore, they derive largely from human cases and may not apply to other multicellular organisms, especially those lacking a basal membrane. Comparative oncology, however, has shown that cancer occurs across a broad diversity of organisms. What definition should be adopted when framing cancer in a comparative and evolutionary perspective? And can an evolution-based definition be applied in clinical oncology? We will show that a universal definition of cancer not only helps provide a basis for progress in comparative oncology, but can also help to explain the diversity of cancer phenomena within humans.

🧪🧪 Just a reminder, a 2024 study published in JAMA that included over 2 million children found that using acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, during pregnancy was not associated with increased risk of autism, ADHD, or intellectual disability in children.

I love listening to the #CancerInOurCommunity podcast from @moffittnews.bsky.social COE but for these two episodes I had to wait until I was ready. I am glad I listened and thankful that there is a podcast that tells these powerful stories and illustrate the role of family members as care givers

Serious question: Now that our government is actively censoring things they don't like, should we stop submitting scientific papers to U.S. journals susceptible to such practices? Maybe European or UK journals would be safer? #publishing #ethics #censorship
