Almost all of my colleagues on my team have been at Blizzard over a decade. WoW is such a big game with so much features, tools, and processes, if we got rid of these people because of layoffs the game would literally fall apart. These people are the reason I’m not fumbling around in the dark.
Layoffs wreck studios. Institutional knowledge is SO valuable in the games industry. When you eventually replace that laid off employee, I don’t care if they’ve got 30 years of experience and dozens of games under their belt. They still have to learn the pipeline, the software, the systems.

Over the last year or two in game dev I’ve found myself starting to burn out really hard and los grip on the person I used to be, especially creatively. I fear I’ve fallen into the trap of being a working adult. Part of me wants to try streaming/content creation to reclaim my creativity.
