If you need more examples look up "Pinkertons union busting". Not enough? Try "Race Riots". You can add in places like Chicago, Hempstead County, Elaine Arkansas, Louisiana...you get the idea. There's nothing more American than state sponsored violence against marginalized communities.

Merkley told a crowd at Clackamas College that even if you think he and other Dem reps are aligned on an issue, call them anyway. Leave a message if you have to. They tabulate the messages, and he takes that number to caucus meetings and the Senate floor. He said it absolutely helps.
