I’m saying this in my capacity as an author and once and future library worker:

Read whatever the hell you want.

I cannot impress enough on you that the “important” books aren’t important if you don’t jive with them. The popular books, the canon, the whatever. Read what you want.

I cannot overstate the importance of reading books, particularly novels by respected authors, for critical thinking skills and reading comprehension. If the big gun novelists don't interest you, start small and work your way up. Or read whatever interests you. Just read. Or listen. It's all books.

Look forward to adding this to the examples I use in my Ecology unit for why:
A. De-extinction is not plausible
B. De-extinction is not a conservation solution
C. Media reporting often confuses press releases from start-up/tech experiments with peer reviewed science
www.abc.net.au/news/2025-04...
A startup says it has 'de-extincted' dire wolves. But what does that actually mean?
A US startup claims to have brought an extinct species back into existence. It's prompted debate about the difference of resurrecting an extinct species and genetically modifying an existing one.

I still can’t figure out when “we can deport you” turned into “we can put you in a hell hole prison in a third country, indefinitely, with no legal recourse.”

Fish folks — what're your favorite papers/articles/podcasts/etc. on 🐠🐟🐠 engineering coral reefs (including but not limited to parrotfish poop)? How do tropical marine fish shape the physical structure of their own worlds? Thanks!

I can't find African Scientists and researchers easily on here. As the second largest continent with 1.3 billion inhabitants our perspectives matter. I'm creating a starterpack to find folks, follow them and amplify them. If you are an African Scientist let me know below so I can add you. Thanks.

PSA: If you're chatting with an employee of a brick and mortar book store, PLEASE don't tell them you're going to buy the book they just spent 10 minutes helping you discover on Amazon. Yes, it may be cheaper, but you're basically using them as an Amazon showroom/extracting unpaid labor.
