“A sailor attached to utility squadron VJ-4 plays with kittens that were discovered in an equipment room at U.S. Naval Air Station Squantum in Massachusetts, 1942.” Original source is the National Archives but I found it in the book Cats in the Navy. www.usni.org/press/books/...
