Yikes. Just got a message from my child’s school: some children’s books by Andrew Cope (inc. Spy Dogs, Spy Cats, and Spy Pups series) have a printed URL at the back. This used to go to the author’s website, but now goes to an “adult content” site.

So, yeah… be careful with that URL 😳

Ah, the thing of seeing folks post 'bring back serialised novels!' and thinking 'well, yes, me and a whole pile of other folk're already way ahead of you there, we just need more readers to realise we exist' XD

The reason the Right are so invested in the myth that the arts have no value isn’t because the arts don’t generate wealth (they do); it’s that studying the arts teaches people to imagine better ways of judging the value of an idea than by counting how much money it makes…

To “add to the noise”, a designer creates new, welcoming flags. As the council considers whether to take down the tricolours proliferating across the city, Dan Eames is aiming to add to them.

“But it gives a better answer with AI turned on”

Oh cool, search engines now randomly show just results or a summary of the first result that looks like an authoritative answer (that may be summarized correctly or not) or a generated generic answer that maybe correct or maybe not.

Good stuff.

Honestly, when the financial press starts printing diagrams like this, isn't it time for a regulator to step in?

Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representatives’ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.
A post by Rebecca Johnson:
“I finally learned how to teach my guys to ID the passive voice. If you can insert "by zombies" after the verb, you have passive voice.”

A tumblr respond from mightymur:
“The final, brilliant word on passive voice.
"She was killed [by zombies.]"<--passive
"Zombies killed [by zombies] her." <-- active”

Got to love Dublin. #Speirgorm
Picture of a large junction box on the street at the top of Kildare Street at Stephen’s Green in Dublin, Ireland. On it is painted a very large, angry-looking seagull in front of two wooden gates. Two tiny people, dwarfed by the seagull, appear to be running from it, one on either side of the lower front of the image. The text over the gates reads St Stephen’s Green. The signature in the lower right of the image says M. Fitz 25.

I’ve heard a lot of public speaking advice over the years, but I’ve never heard anyone give THE most important tip:

In the hour before your talk, beware unfamiliar taps.

Not helping the "just took some new funding we haven't disclosed yet" allegations.

All I know is I've seen some pretty evil lists out there accusing users of antisemitism or Islamaphobia and other labels that I know they aren't and that seems to be just fine with the mods

the wise admins of bluesky have decided that creating a moderation list of AI slop posters is a no no

This is one of Ireland's great scandals. It is disgusting, infantilising, disempowering and downright dangerous.

And why is it means tested based on your partner's income if you cohabitate? I am disabled and can't work and yet I can't marry or even live with my partner of almost four years or I'll be forced to depend on his income which, through no fault of his, is not large enough to support two people.
melissabreen.bsky.social
The Basic Income for the Arts Scheme is €325 a week, similar to what they gave out during the pandemic. This is how much they've deemed one needs in order to live in Ireland. So why is disability benefit only €244? Why are disabled and sick people expected to live so far below the poverty line?

I do get your point, yet I’d argue it is *still* better. Self moderation works, block works, links don’t get suppressed and there is organic reach, which puts it leagues above the others for us commercial artists

It’s still the best shit in the shitpile and since I have to eat shit I take this one
danliimatta.bsky.social
My guess is that they came here thinking it to be different, better. When they realized it was also bad, then going back was easy.

I'd argue it's a lot better, but I can see why people that got disillusioned went back to the platforms they wanted bluesky to be the ethically healthy version of.
