My new short piece in Feminists@Law considers the use of history in the For Women Scotland judgment.

It's part of a 'rapid response' special issue, 'Interrogating For Women Scotland v The Scottish Ministers'.

Today is #InternationalLesbianDay – a day to celebrate the resilience, strength, and visibility of lesbians. 🌈🌏

It is also a day to reflect and acknowledge the multifaceted discrimination LGBTQ+ people face all around the world.

To mark the day Uariumue shared her experience: tr.ee/oCKcQB

Uairumue, a member of our Rainbow Sisters, shares her experience as a lesbian woman in her home country, and her experience seeking safety in the UK.

Yes, I've published an article and a book with a chapter about it.
carolinederry.bsky.social
It did include the Law Lords, though.
carolinederry.bsky.social
No - she just says 'selected' Lords. She was working with some already on the legislation.

For #IWD and #WomensHistoryMonth - the incredible Alison Neilans, who prevented sex between women being criminalised in England and Wales.
It was proposed in 1921, for cynical reasons, but would probably have become law without her prompt and effective response. (1/6)
Photographic portrait of Alison Neilans, in Edwardian blouse and neck bow, wearing pince nez, under the text "votes for women".

It’s unfortunate that the general aging population doesn’t get as much interaction with curious, hardworking young people as college professors do. They really will give you hope about the future on a daily basis 🤔

This year's OU legal histories conference (free, online) is on 'moments of rupture' - whether social rupture with legal consequences, or vice versa. Were they really ruptures? How was change or continuity achieved?
Details/call for papers below.

Moments of Rupture Online 20-21 November 2025Some legal and social changes are so profound that they create what seem to be moments of rupture: breaks between the ‘before’ and ‘after’. These moments c...

“Golden ticket”?!! JFC what a disgusting way to describe it. By granting asylum we accept that the person has been persecuted or threatened to the point of having to flee their home. Having something approximating a normal life isn’t a sodding golden ticket. www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025...
Starmer to end asylum ‘golden ticket’ of resettlement and family reunion rights
People granted asylum will have to earn right to invite family in plan charities call ‘straight from populist playbook’

I feel this so deeply, for myself and for so many others. The cumulative effect on this nation and its communities is staggering and completely unaccounted for by anyone in power.

It really is just relentless the constant dehumanisation in this country. Prove you deserve to be here. Prove you deserve to be cared for. Prove your gender. Prove you deserve to have human rights. Prove you deserve to stay after a whole decade. It just chisels away at your humanity

Just fuck off with this. How about start the conversation by highlighting how much immigrants contribute to the UK - not least by propping up the NHS and social care system!

Also - forced volunteering is not volunteering, it's unpaid labour.

Sky News says police are "overwhelmed by the numbers". Met coped perfectly well with 2x as many at the pro-Gaza rally, 5x as many at the anti-Brexit march, and 15x as many at London Pride.

They're not overwhelmed by the numbers. They're overwhelmed by the ratio of violent thugs in those numbers.
