They have willingly and even eagerly reduced themselves to non-sentience beings who respond automatically to stimuli without any cognitive action.

Outside of the big urban centers, NY *state* is pretty damn Red. She's counting on them to outnumber the urban vote.

It doesn't usually work, and Stefanick is so overtly an empty apparatchik who spouts whatever the GOP party line is at any particular hour that even MAGAs might recoil. But YNK.

That was the point I was trying to make: subsidized or fully-paid childcare for people who could otherwise not work - and who want to work* - is a different thing from subsidizing childcare for someone so they can be a (presumably very well paid) mayor of a major city.

*I support UBI

I agree that childcare costs a LOT; I'm just not sure it helps Wilson's argument she should be mayor by pointing out the city should be paying for *her* child's daycare.

People who need childcare in order to work FT are a different category from a mayoral candidate.

Is there something wrong with Janet Mills? Other than being an old lady?
November 6, 2025 at 2:40 PM
I did. I'm still not sure what point you're trying to make.

Imagine what you'd be saying if Harrell had his upgrades paid for by the city, or by "private donors."

But he didn't.

Katie Wilson is, however, asking the city to pay for child care.

What is Wilson going to do about child care if she is elected?
November 5, 2025 at 7:48 PM
Patriarchy. Misogyny. Machismo.
November 5, 2025 at 6:30 PM
Not sure what point is being made here. Harrell paid for this himself, right? Didn't get the city to pay for it, or take dark money; but paid his own way, right? And... that's bad? Is that what you're saying?

Is he maybe not supposed to travel at all, or only travel coach?

pictured: two folk almanacs from our library, which give plenty of examples of the kinds of folk celebrations that would happen throughout the English calendar year - whether that's Halloween or Bonfire Night, which takes place this evening!

GOP voters disagree/disapprove of him on issues that mean less to them than the ones they strongly approve of. E.g., they'll put up with the destruction of public health if they also get white men running everything; accept crashing the economy if that means no immigrants, etc.

But you will get at least a cold shoulder upon returning home.
