This is good —the Mayor of Yellowknife NWT in Canada’s far north weighs in on “Car Bloat” (truck bloat actually) and its many big costs & consequences (thanks @davidzipper.bsky.social for heads-up). And like most who dare tell the truth about that, he’s taking flack.

I've found it hard to land the significance of wildfires to people outside Canada (or other places that experience them).

This stat is shocking but hopefully useful.

Smoke from Canada's 2023 wildfires linked to over 82K deaths worldwide.

Study published this week in the journal Nature links Canadian wildfire smoke to tens of thousands of deaths across North America, Europe and to a lesser extent, Asia, with more deaths likely.

My lab's been attacked by an anti-wind group and their lawyers. They threatened the science funding of my whole university, to shut me and my undergraduate research assistants up.

NYT just covered it. 1/n

1. At the Tipping Points conference in Exeter yesterday, I spoke about the likelihood of food system collapse: a massive existential threat few people's radar. If you want a handle on the issue, here's the submission I made to a parliamentary committee.

Outside of the world wars, this is the best time in Canadian history to increase taxes on the wealthy and push the idea that paying taxes is a patriotic duty.

Instead, the Liberals are going with the conservative playbook of continuing to demonize taxes and shit on the very idea of public spending.

Don't take it from me. Take it from the government's own assessment:
Everything Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves have said about nature protection blocking house building is big fat shining lie.
A lie now being locked into legislation before Parliament.
www.theguardian.com/environment/...
UK government admits almost no evidence nature protections block development
Whitehall analysis provides no data or research to support the government argument that environmental legislation holds up building
