Florence Price, America's 1st black woman composer, died #OTD. But never forgotten.

Her music is often played today. So why isn’t she better known?

"I have two handicaps," she wrote: "I am a woman and I have some Negro blood in my veins."

May she RIP.

🌹 Georges Bizet died 150 years ago today, aged only 36. He's famous for Carmen, which had premiered just a few months before his death – a flop – but what other works make our top ten playlist? 🇫🇷 bachtrack.com/playlist-top...
Bachtrack top ten: Georges Bizet
If Georges Bizet had written only Carmen, he would still have earned his place in classical music’s Hall of Fame, yet there is much more to this composer who died tragically young.

Vivaldi’s Recorder Concerto in F Major (RV 442) was almost certainly written for one of the exceptionally talented girls of the Ospedale della Pietà, where he taught for many years.

But he wasn’t the only one shaping the sound of the Pietà.

Two great composers celebrate their birthdays #OTD, but Brahms and Tchaikovsky had nothing but disdain for each other. And especially their music.

After a couple of drinks together they became fast drinking buddies and agreed to disagree about the music.

Flute & recorder a combo you haven't heard in a baroque concerto before? Not surprised

Here's Ade to introduce the first single from Crossing Borders– the finale of Telemann’s concerto for flute, recorder, strings and continuo. It’s bold, folky, full of bounce, and unusually… collaborative.
