I think people take for granted the ability to post freely on the internet. Our ability to do so is endangered. Social media isn't going away but the powers that be are hyper focused on making it an echo chamber

Pat blinked, as if doing so would clear her ears. “What? Phaedra? Why are you here?”

Phaedra braced herself against the door frame. Her black wolf shag hung in her eyes, but she didn’t appear to notice. “I know you can. I just… I need to forget. Please?”

“Have you been drinking?” Pat looked around. Phaedra’s Indian Scout was parked in the circular driveway. “You drove your motorcycle here? Does Andi know where you are?”

At the mention of Andi, Phaedra fell against the wall and slid into a blubbering heap.

“Oh this is bad. Come on.” Pat hoisted her up and led her to the sofa.

From a still untitled 🤦‍♀️ Aetherpunk novella. This is the MC on only her first night of watch as The Rose Compass and her crew begins the hunt for an Imperial Admiral's ship in dangerous skies.

I rolled my eyes but couldn’t keep a smile from my lips as I lifted the warm mug to my face. I breathed deep. The earthy aroma threatened to warm me from the inside out all by itself. "Thanks, Em. Who would’ve…"

I caught movement off to port. Emmy must have sensed it too, lowering her mug and glancing out into the dark. Then we both stumbled backward as a gaunt and pale humanoid appeared. They crouched on the railing and scented us through a curtain of matted hair. Their mouth opened to fangs that seemed to grow as I watched.

I turned to Emmy to see the color drain even from her cold, cherry-red nose. Her eyes widened. Her abandoned mug shattered on the deck when she reached for the hilt of her blade. Steaming tea ran dark across enchanted wood as she raised the alarm. "Nighteaters!"

“Say please, or I won’t drink a single drop, and you’ll have to watch me die without ever getting the chance to fight me again.” Another scratch of her teeth, and Ashrah squirmed beneath her. Nitara grabbed the demon’s thigh with her free hand, grounding herself. “Beg for me.”

A grunt. And then, finally… “Please.”

She sank her fangs in.

“Oh? Yeah. That’s right. Ahn-Me.” Ceres laughed. She ran a slender blue finger over a dark purple nipple, giving it a playful pinch.

The Aasimar rolled over, trying to protect her breasts. “Ah! Still sensitive, Miss Needleteeth.”

“Didn’t hear you complain. In fact I recall someone saying ‘harder’.” She nipped towards her, baring her tiny sharp teeth.

I pull back, resting her against her pillows. I must see her face. "I will not refuse you. Only, I must know: are you certain, my love? For you know there is pain in it, as well as pleasure. And I think you shall not have to wait much longer for the Creator's own appointed hour for you..."

"I am certain." She clutches my hand, a strength in the tips of her fingers which is absent everywhere else. "I do not wish to wait, nor suffer through another fit like that. Every time it has come over me today, I've felt as if I shall drown in air. I spent every waking moment today fearing I would die before the night, and never see you again. No, no more waiting. Give me your lips, your teeth. I am well used to that pain — crave it still, even," here she must pause for another weak, yet short cough, "even after all these years. Forgive me — I remain a sinner to the last."

But we do like to keep an eye on the place.” He tapped one finger lightly against the steering wheel. “Funny, for our many differences, it seems we do share a characteristic. Christopher Alden is not my real name, just as Charlotte Jones is not yours.” Charlie bit back an urge to defend herself. “I suppose you’re wondering what our interest is in your, hmm, paramour, Jessica Mitchell.” At this, he briefly turned to her, his cold brown eyes drilling into her.
“If you’re trying to get me to bite, you won’t. I just want to know where my stuff went. And I’d like to see Jess again, too. And just to be clear, Charlotte is my name.”
She waited, hoping to have hit the right notes. Noah’s York notes on in person social engineering had been abbreviated, and Charlie’s grasp of them vastly less finessed than Noah’s.
