It's an enemies-to-lovers, so emotions are confused and actions aren't matching internal thoughts. Once they get there, Lusa's intense loyalty is something Kerr has never had and Kerr's acceptance and gratitude are the missing pieces for Lusa.

I honestly thought she was going to punch that guy. It was reckless and altogether sweet. She remembered reaching out to calm Shannon down in the aftermath. Ironic, since she was usually the one who needed calming. But what unsettled her most was how instinctive the gesture had been. It felt natural—ordinary even. But still thrilling. Her eyes drifted to the Marty original on the wall. The longer she stared at it, the more she wanted to destroy it—rip it off the wall and set the ghastly thing ablaze. She knew it was irrational to be so annoyed with a painting, but she couldn’t reconcile the incongruity. How could someone have such poor taste in art and such good taste in women?

Unsure whether to classify it as pleasant or unpleasant, she proceeded in her trial with gentler strokes. Knowing now what to expect, she appreciated the small waves that cruised her limbs at each touch. Not unlike playing the erhu, she thought, when she bowed one part of the string and the entire line quivered with beautiful music. She tilted her head back, resting it against the headboard. Her eyes closed, mind empty—not even an echo of Datusha’s presence! Ashrah might have worried that it had indeed travelled to the Netherrealm, but she had no mental space for it right now—, focusing entirely on the amusing thrills coursing through her. With an approving hum, she put a little more pressure, a little more speed… and that was when, in the comfortable darkness behind her closed eyelids, an image flashed, sharp and fast like a lightning bolt: Nitara tearing the head of a demon off.

But anyone with functional eyes could see that two fingers was roughly a quarter of the thickness of the monstrosity Caoimhe held. Lusa took a few breaths while Caoimhe scoured her face for any sign it might be too much. Obviously, other women enjoyed this. If they didn’t, no-one would have made anything like it. There must be something about having a toy that large inside of them. The more she thought about it, the less she could deny the thrill the idea. The corner of her lip tugged upward. “Yes.”
