She was laying across the narrow part of an extravagant bed, her instrument on her upturned stomach and her head over the edge so that her long hair, she had much longer hair then, draped on the rug. Beside her was an empty bottle much like the one we had all partaken from earlier in the evening. I expressed my apologies but that was not the conversation which she was interested in having. "Did you know," she began while still looking at me from upside down, still plucking strings, "That I was married once? Well, near enough, but so very long ago." Knowing next to nothing about her, I shook my head and wondered what "so very long ago" might mean to someone who seemed only a few years my senior.

It’s a streak of red down my display, even agreeing to the exact bill that limited the access he called to complain about. May you have the day you voted for. The sentence sits on my tongue, but I swallow it. Instead I opt for the approach I’ve had the most success with lately. "However…​" I slip an encrypted message into our channel. His breathing stops for a moment. I have him on the hook. "No, apologies. I was wrong. There seems to be nothing I can do. Good day sir. Thank you for contacting HotTube support." I close the channel and wait.

But I have never seen your smile, and I would love to. Will you let me?” Mileena knew this was coming. Of course it was. Why would the gods give her something, someone, she liked, and let her keep it? For once in her life, she almost believed… but no, that wasn’t allowed. Not for her. “I’m sorry,” she croaked out, her voice as raspy and otherworldly as when she was an untrained sprout, a spawn of the Hells, and she all but ran away while Tanya called her name.
