Vola has to this point been able to do some magic and enchantments under the radar and understate her accomplishments. She's created and maintained powerful magical weapons and as she will learn, you can't cast big magic with small intentions. To combat both her family and Marak she is going (5/?)

she's had to settle based on circumstances. As for her friends and love interest, she will get some Come to Shatrava moments.

Vola's biggest boons in the 2nd part of book 2 are her intellect and empathy. Both of which she will have to actually show and not keep hidden to her life with Nat.(4/?)

an 18 year old disaster. Even Innani is giving Nat tough love to help release her from the unrealistic expectations that the Church put on her. All of this will push Nat in the 2nd half of the book. She will find that "spark" to be a healer again and not just feel like (3/?)

load and nightmares. This is driven by 1) the precarious nature of their living situation 2) feeling some guilt and shame from her fall from grace (amplified thanks to Akash) 3) and going from a place of being a leader to having mentors and friends who give her the chance and space to be (2/?)

So for Nat her negative traits in part 2 of One Bad Tuesday is that she is suffering from some low self-esteem and shutting out everyone except Vola. Even Vola is being waved off in regards to her work(1/?)

She glanced over the grid paper runic circuits that she had plotted out on break last night at work. The arcane battery she was making would tap into Nat’s divine spark and act as a conduit to recharge all the wards in the house. She’d double and triple checked the math already, and by all accounts, it should work. But she was walking this tightrope wire without a safety net.There was no one else to tap her on the shoulder and give her feedback.

But that wasn’t even what worried her the most. How did she make a battery that could withstand the charge Nat would bring without frying? Her best friend was a supernova, and she was trying to use it to jumpstart a car. How did you make sure you harnessed just enough to get the engine running without setting it on fire? Would the combination of nail polish and tin solder be powerful enough, or was she just throwing one weak material on top of another and hoping for the best?

The worst part is that they are not the first. Marak preyed on displaced people during the Summer of Funerals. That includes Nat's father, Akash who is currently haunting/possessing her.

The Cutting Room stank. Mold, unwashed bodies, stale beer. The entrance was a cage, the words WELCOME TO HELL scrawled on the wall above. Strobes drowned the moshing bodies in a jerking, nightmarish red. The pit was a snarl of blood and fists and teeth. The crowd was on an edge so sharp she could cut with it as they pressed towards the center stage, keening for the figure who stood on it. From here, Vola could catch only glimpses. Black corset with fingerless gloves, combat boots, soft breasts, leather choker, crimson lips. Eyes blue as death swept the crowd with a predatory gaze. She sang into the mic with a sexual growl that passed through the worshippers - and Vola - with a shiver.

to be their "front door". To bring in extra cash Vola has been helping with the trivia nights she was voluntold to do and Nat picked up a spare part time job at a holistic healing center on top of her job at Innani's. So they have been very focused on surviving.

on the defensive for about a year at this point. They have had to learn and employ runes that are of primal origins. Nat has had to learn how to channel her "damaged" spark into witchcraft to power said runes and cultivate demon repellent plants. They have used her room and the fire escape (3/?)

So basically because of "The Lease". Nat and Vola have been under a lease that means if they break it or fail to pay rent, Marak owns their souls. Meanwhile any chance to attack or torment them he takes. So they have been (2/?)

“Um...excuse me?” She peeked her head up front, and immediately exited the car, re-entering on the front passenger side. Mara’s voice in her head nagged her. Safer in the backseat, she said. If you have to take a Maze Car, always sit in the backseat. She shoved the annoying voice away and focused on the driver. A young human man, with a blue and red slicked back mohawk. He had several facial piercings and wore a denim jacket covered in patches of what she assumed were bands. Slumped over the steering wheel, he looked unconscious save for the ragged gasps shaking his body.

“Hi there! My name is Doctor Natalyiah Sha….”, she shook her head and started again. “Hi! My name is Nat. I’m a doctor. Do you need help?” she said observing the man’s skin color and eye movements.
