Today's #Smutcember prompt:

How do you handle perspectives in sexy scenes? Do you focus on one POV at a time or switch around?

#WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
#Smutcember 16:

This made me realize that up to now, I have only ever written the POV of one side of the romantic pairing, even in multiple POV books! 🤔 My next two both have dual-POV planned for each love interest, though, so this is something I should think about! (1/3)

HaHA!! I got to be RP 69, woohoo!

Function of where the scene fits in the larger work. My romantasy isn't smut-centric, but there are going to be multiple full-penetration sequences in a novel-length book. But maybe this is just a kiss, a hug. Sharing air. It's a question of pacing, I guess.

Sometimes it's the main course, and sometimes it's a snack, with all the ceremony or lack thereof that comparison entails.
In either case, largely because of the kinks involved, they tend extreme even in the latter case, so it mainly boils down to the decision to linger on it or not.

This might sound weird, but I kind of ask the characters. I feel out what they'd be comfortable with at whatever point they are in their arc, and I let them guide me.

I also want to ensure my big publications are able to capture a wide audience, so I keep it somewhat tame in them.

There are several factors that go into the decision. What's right for the characters, the tone/verbiage that's appropriate for the book, and the level of explicitness that makes sense for the genre. For Thief of Death specifically 🧵

Very good list of indies here 👀
It is Indie Ink Awards season, and I had a hell of a time voting for my favorites. In doing so, I found a ton of new indies I want to read, and some old favorites.

Vote for your indies, and find some new reads for your TBR!

I'm so glad you asked! Buckle up:

With every scene, I try to accomplish something that either develops the plot or builds the characters' intimacy, which is to say that there's a certain finish line for each scene that must be reached that moves the characters/plot from point A to B+

For me it depend on what narratively I'm trying to accomplish. For example if it's similar to a previous scene, there's no new character development etc, there's no point in repeating things, it's enough it's mentioned/implied. Sometimes the build up or the aftercare is the narrstively-

A15. It depends on a combo of plot, character arcs or setting details.

Sex scenes are lot like action scenes -- you have to consider characters placement & feelings at the time.

Personally, I like good choreography w my chemistry (I was gonna say "vibes w my vibes" but yknow, ace--)

It depends on the purpose of the scene. If it's to show an important part of character development or ties into the plot somehow, it will probably be a little longer. If it's only purpose is, "two people fucking/making love," it will probably be shorter. I go with what fits.

It all depends on what the scene needs to convey. If it's moving the plot forward, developing the characters, or both.

There is one sex scene in A CERTAIN DARKNESS that is absolutely integral to both, to the point that the Big Bad couldn't be defeated without it.

Hey #smutcember! Sorry I've fallen behind. Been fighting a case of vertigo and screen time is not fun.

When it comes to how far to take a scene, I kinda go with my gut. First times usually go all the way to the happy end. But after that it's a matter of what is needed to forward the relationship.

I haven't really written enough to say what I *do*, so here's what I *would do*.

In theory, it's all vibes based, based on the kind of story that I'm trying to tell. Right now it's 'Whoah, they're really very naked in there!' but I can totally see other ideas I've got for

I am a yiffsmith. I write pornography. I am fucking good at it too.

a few times I've faded to black, but that was for pacing decisions rather than because i felt the urge to self-censor.

So, I've been a graphic designer for a looong time. At my last job, I began to believe I just really hated being a graphic designer. But I've also worked on some volunteer/freelance publication design stuff the last few months, and I realize that's not true. (1/5)

It depends on the scene. In book 1 we give Nat and Ceres a very explicit scene as it was a moment of growth for Nat. In book 2 week cut away scene as it represents how Nat handles sex now.

I mean, it really just depends on the scene and what I'm trying to do or say with it. Sometimes that goes all the way and sometimes it fades to black. If I hit that flow state and want to keep writing it, that's a pretty good sign I'll keep most if not all of the intimate details in.

Mostly by feel (giggity), I guess. Sometimes it just makes sense to fade to black, or imply it just happened after a scene break. Other times it's just way more satisfying to show everything (especially because this is usually how Obito gets back at Daisuke for being a teasing brat 💀🤭)

It’s 100% vibes.

Funnily enough, in Jayde’s POV, I tend to push further in scenes where the characters end up being interrupted. In a scene where they *do* have sex, I fade to black before things get too heated. ngl, I’m kind of afraid to know what goes through Jayde’s head during sex. 😅

My WIP features some Sub/Dom elements, so whether something is "too far" is part of the thrill. But I suppose the real difference isn't how far, but how internal or external I want the focus to be. If it's internal, it's more about feelings and thoughts, but external is more graphic.

Felcrown⚔️ is fade-to-black, and my silly mystery erotica🔎🌶️ is practice for sex scenes so it includes EVERYTHING a flimsy plot can carry!🤣

So main decision is in Philosopher Queens🎸❤️ where I include it all if the sex is an emotional/plot focus of the scene, otherwise only give a tease.
