At the start of Sunrise, Jayde is happier & more satisfied with her life than she was at the very beginning of Sidetracked, but she was deeply traumatized by the events of the series. She’s still in an early phase of the healing process & actively working on herself.

fiction is a safe space to think of unsafe things

if you feel it's messing you up, step away. don't assume it's messing everyone up and you need to eradicate it because you caught a case of the feel-bads from something. go sit with that and think about why instead of pissing in everyone else's cheerios.

Finishing a draft is the hardest part. I get completion anxiety bc I don’t want it to be over, which leads to me procrastinating by peeking at other unfinished projects, rereading/editing what I’ve already written over & over, and doomscrolling on social media.

Less than 1. I don’t even know which WIP I’ll move to after I finish my holiday epilogue novella (which won’t come out until fall 2026). Leaving Jayde POV Sidetracked behind (after 17/18 years!) will be weird. But I figure it’ll take at least 2-3yr before I have another novel ready to publish. 🥲

This is always embarrassing to answer for Sidetracked bc I started writing it when I was 13 after being introduced to the YA paranormal romance genre via Twilight. Something about the Twilight Saga really made me want to write my own YA PNR (but Darker™ & Edgier™). So I did. 😇

I am genuinely ashamed of the town I grew up in. Holy shit. The Trump administration being so loudly & proudly hateful really encouraged the bigots to crawl out of the woodwork and feel comfortable saying the nastiest shit with their full chest using their PUBLIC Facebook profiles. I really liked her Folklore & Evermore albums, but they’re different from most everything else she’s put out. I don’t entirely understand why/how she became the phenomenon she is (fanbase-wise lmao)

I can comment a completely calm, reasonable statement, and 20+ people come at me like I said the most outrageous, inflammatory thing. Obsessing over kid’s genitals like that’s a totally normal thing for adult people to do. But I’m the weird, delusional one, apparently.

If I weren’t afraid of losing my job or having the FBI randomly show up at my house again, I’d be a lot meaner to unhinged bigots on social media. But unfortunately I do need a job to keep myself & my family alive, so I have to be…the respectful “bigger person” 🤢

Crystal & Daniel are like those best friends who have each other in a voice call almost 24/7 (except the voice call is him chattering away in her head while she responds only when no one is around to hear her talking to herself)
