It would be extremely cool if a bunch of people called payment processors over Black Friday weekend to ask why they're telling people what they can and can't buy with their own money. This holiday season, give the gift of calling payment processors over Black Friday weekend
Spoke with a source who told me the call volume is so high, a call center for both Mastercard & Visa is bringing out pizza and ice cream so agents don’t quite amid the rush. Long waits are causing dropped calls.

What you’re doing is working. Call MC & Visa.

Based on people I've met at events, the most common answer is that "if you haven't read X story or seen Y movie, you can't call yourself a real sci-fi author".
What’s a misconception that people have about your genre? Horror doesn’t have to have gore or violence towards animals to be scary #writingq #WritingCommunity

Oh hey. If you're preordering the signed copy Opus on Ko-fi, I'm going to be shipping out a bunch of orders on Monday. Maybe considering getting your orders in? If you're in the US, you might even get it early.

perhaps it’s naive of me to hope that the Magica Riot books can break into the more anime-only magical girl fandom circles and give folks something fun and emotional to read even if they aren’t big readers, but that’s something I will keep pushing for

Stuff like this is why I do my birthday HEY LOOK AT ALL MY FRIENDS STUFF thread every year. And try to talk about their work as much as I can. I've never had an audience before here. So many people I know deserve success so much more than me. I want them to have it.

FWIW: Mention books you like or you think others might like. You never know what'll happen:

I saw The Sad Bastard Cookbook here so I mentioned it on Masto (in a "in case you need this" sense). It kinda went viral (1K shares). It jumped to a high ranking on Amazon and then they got media attention.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

and to be clear, it wasn't remotely viral. But a lot of indies work on very small scale, and sudden access to a whole new big pool of potential readers can make a lot of difference

three people buying a book we didn't really have on our radar at my old bookstore was instant "order more, face it out, somebody on staff read it and write a talker for it" territory
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.

Well, I guess it started during my first year of the second grade, when I was eating lunch and caught my reflection in a spoon, and I thought to myself, 'Hey, Derek, you're ridiculously good looking! And I thought maybe I could do that.

BREAKING: This is huge news, the EU's equivalent of the 🇺🇸Supreme Court's 2015 Obergefell v. Hodges ruling.

🇪🇺Court of Justice just ruled all 🇪🇺countries must recognise same-sex marriages granted in other member states.

This effectively legalises gay marriage across 🇪🇺

I seriously considered giving up writing multiple times 2017-2019. If it wasn’t for the love that writing Project Tasman as a CYOA thread story got, Kotov Syndrome likely would have never been finished. Nor Opus. Nor Woodpusher.
Borrowing this idea to illustrate my own timeline since 2016. This is raw sales. Does not include expenses, returns, name change stuff. Opus totals for this year are presuming all preorders end up sticking. Totals in USD

I don't think I can express strongly enough how little I made some years.

So my pie take is there are no bad pies, but some pies have to be eaten a certain way:

1. Pecan: Always good

2. Fruit: Must be homemade. Otherwise bad.

3. Pumpkin: Best eaten cold at 7 am standing over a sink before everyone wakes up
Apple pie is bad. This is not really debatable. So is key lime pie, while we’re on the topic. Pecan pie is the 🐐 tho.
