This is data released by the Federal Reserve, where they claim that consumer borrowing in the entirety of the United States economy in August was only $363 million, about a buck a person, and about 2% of the expected number. Curious as to how they could possibly justify this.

so in short - I am skeptical on AI replacing Hollywood in product capability, but I am absolutely befuddled as to how anyone makes Ai Feature Film in the next 3-5 years commercially viable purely from a “who in the fuck will you get to watch this at the scale that makes you money off of it”

so far the advocates claim at one point, enough of the mass market audience won’t be able to tell the difference & that “this feels cheap” will fade out - but at that point, because of how AI works, *anyone can do it*, so the positioning with said tools loses the purpose of doing it!

as such, the “marketability” of AI Film seems super suspect.

example: adoption of LLM based image generation has been ok at the free level but not even close for a paid product, and most customers think poorly on a product/brand when they suspect something is presented with Ai in marketing

the quality of “bespoke”, hand made, union made - these attributes fluctuate in value, but normally the only time “easier and cheaper for us to make” has saw a change in consumer behavior is when the cost savings or consumption optimization is passed on to the consumer - not the vendor

if the bet on AI triumphing on Hollywood is “eventually people will want their film to be from AI over actors” - from a marketing perspective this seems both unrealistically optimistic based on human behaviors and purchase behaviors for the past 100 years

people don’t think automation > quality!

feature film has some very different bespoke cases in promotion and distribution that I am not really qualified to talk about - but the point you’re raising about “the viability of cinema starts with the picture being worth someone’s time to see” is typically more a marketing than a product problem
