🇲🇽 Mexico could stop importing gas from the US thanks to solar power and batteries ☀️🔋

Latin American countries gathering at #XSemanaDeLaEnergía all have the potential to become solar superpowers.

Spain’s rapid wind and solar growth has CUT the link between gas and electricity prices 🌪️☀️

🇪🇸’s decoupling of gas and electricity prices happened faster than in other European countries, making it one of the cheapest power markets in Europe.

In the hottest hours of summer, over one-tenth of Türkiye’s electricity is used for cooling and this share can reach up to 18% on extremely hot days

But solar energy peaks at the same time, making ☀️ a KEY solution for maintaining grid stability.

Voilà: is hiring a graphic designer for the first time in 4 years. Rare opportunity to join the team.

The job is in Montreal (no remote) and the ad is in French because we work in French and half our projects are in French.

Happy to answer questions!

How reliable is the US weather temperature forecast? Didn't know that about Florida.
A chloropleth map of the USA plots by colour the accuracy of the temperature forecast. Most westerly regions are 5-6 days accurate, easterly 3-4 while central regions are only accurate to 2 days out. South Florida is the most accurate with spot-on forecasts up to 7 days.

NEW | 74% of the global population lives in countries that are net importers of fossil fuels.

12 countries supply 80% of net fossil fuel exports - with rising trade uncertainty, this puts much of the world at risk.

Feels important to point this out today. A milestone reached while Trump was in office.

🚨 NEW RECORD | Fossil fuels fell below 50% of US electricity for the first month on record

This was driven by solar and wind reaching a record high 📈

In March 2025, solar increased by 37% (+8.3 TWh) and wind by 12% (+5.7 TWh) compared to the year before ↗️

Charting solar power's explosive global growth!

From 2019 to 2024, countries have moved right (higher share, %) and up (more solar power, TWh), with the boom spanning small to large power markets.

@ember-energy.org's Global Electricity Review is out today!
ember-energy.org/latest-insig...
A series of six scatter plots showing global solar power growth from 2019 to 2024. The plots compare electricity generation from solar (in terawatt-hours, TWh) and its share of total electricity generation (percentage) across different countries. Countries are grouped based on their total solar electricity generation in 2024.

>100 TWh: China, the United States, and India have seen significant solar growth.
50-100 TWh: Brazil, Germany, and Spain have increased solar generation.
20-50 TWh: Australia, Italy, South Korea, and the Netherlands show strong growth, with solar making up a larger share of their electricity mix.
5-20 TWh: Countries like South Africa, Poland, Chile, Greece, and Hungary have increased solar power generation but remain in the mid-range.
1-5 TWh: Denmark, Jordan, and Cyprus have expanded solar power, with higher shares of solar in their electricity mix.
<1 TWh: Smaller markets like Armenia, Estonia, and Malta have also increased solar generation but at lower absolute levels.

The chart highlights widespread solar power growth across all regions, with significant increases in both total generation and solar's share of electricity generation between 2019 and 2024.

Heat pumps are vastly more efficient than gas heating systems.

With the right policies they can also be significantly cheaper from a total cost of ownership perspective.

Not long ago coal provided almost 40% of our electricity.

Today it is 0%.

Coal’s decline was achieved without switching to gas, driven instead by renewables & demand reduction.

Wind and solar experienced massive growth as coal entered terminal decline.

EU coal power is on its way out. Solar power is firmly on its way in.

And its happening across the EU... solar growth over the last 5 years has been pretty staggering in some countries 🇪🇺📈 (map by @laorso.bsky.social)
