_Richard Heart Julianne_

By @ronanhession.bsky.social

Spring/Summer 2027.

‘In Richard Heart Julianne we enter the mindstream of Richard on his last day as he reflects on his life, his home city and his failed marriage to Julianne.'

Brilliant!

No thick snow here on the coast, but lovely seas!

Very wintery out there. The snow isn't settling properly right on the north coast of Scotland. Inland is a different story! This is looking north from my window.

My word of the day: immure

It means to wall in, surround with walls, or to imprison. Or to shut oneself up. "I immure myself within my writings."

One of many obscure words worth rediscovering.

AI is here to stay. So, how can we authors embrace is legitimately without undermining our rolls as authors?

Christmas wasn't a public holiday in Scotland until 1958.

Puritanical Protestants hated it. Singing and dancing were out. In 1640, the Scottish Parliament banned it.

Thankfully, the English got rid of the Puritans - sent them to the US - and Eventually, the Scots got their Christmas back!

Jimmy Lai, the media tycoon and brave defender of democracy in Hong Kong, has been found guilty of ‘foreign collusion’. His family expect he’ll die in jail. HK’s national security law, imposed by Beijing after huge pro-democracy protests, has claimed its most prominent victim.

A light lunch today: Toast with hot nduja, cheddar, anchovies, cherry tomatoes, olive oil, and salt.

A chill is around my shoulders
As I sit hunched at my desk working
Ploughing through lines of Dickens
And the cold lives he described
His words reach forwards to me
Through decades of lives changing
The humble pathetic voices
Of those poor children pushed aside

@handle.invalid I think I have found one of the best definitions in the OED. This is for "Hypocrisy", which should probably be my word of the year.

In Glasgow, 90% of kids speak good English. The remaining 10% are working at it.

For anyone who has worked their way through a conversation with a Glaswegian, that is pretty good going!

Watching The Diplomat on Netflix. A fun little tale of a accident prone and idiotic Ambassador for the US to the UK and her husband, a former Ambassador, and her little entourage of even more idiotic advisors.

I have a suspicion that the description was intended to be something else.

Why is "Patriotism" bad?

Simple. If you vote against a leader who demands your loyalty, demands you are patriotic to them, the father figure, then they will say you are disloyal, unpatriotic.

They will say you are a traitor.

That is NOT democracy. A true democracy demands nothing.
