CDT Europe is releasing its first report on how the EU’s current approach to spyware is failing to protect democracy. Spyware is being used across the Union to target journalists, activists, political opponents and public officials. The risks keep escalating. 🧵

We opened with a fireside chat moderated by our Sec Gen, @ashaoallen.bsky.social, on #DSA Year Two and the multistakeholder approach to enforcement.

Panelists shared reflections on the state of the #CSO ecosystem, the challenges facing regulators and the evolving role of public interest actors.

In the afternoon, the first high level panel explored the AI Act’s next phase: guidance, standardisation, enforcement and the protection of fundamental rights. Two parallel break-out sessions then dived deeper into the Member State and EU institutional perspectives.
