Infrastructure executive, math nerd, policy wonk.

Posting about tech, politics, infrastructure, and society. Really just organizing my thoughts publicly.
Yes, the message is comply or die. No, it isn't new. Men and boys of colour have been told for years, "They want a reason to shoot. Don't give it to them." I was 13 years old when my mother told me the police would treat me differently. Black boys hear it younger. Welcome to the USA.

I was born and raised in San Francisco. Nancy Pelosi was elected to Congress when my parents were high school juniors. During Obama's time, I interned with the California Speaker, and met many of the individuals rising to the fight for her seat. 1/

I once again ask, at what point is the constitutional responsibility of the people to bear arms against a tyrannical government triggered?
A question for any constitutional law experts on here:

At what point is law enforcement, federal or local, infringing on constitutional rights of a citizen or resident in such a way that invokes a right to armed defense?

Senator Lisa Murkowski just demonstrated the single biggest issue with a Representative Republic. If any member of a republic can be exempted from the law, there is in fact no nation.

My major issue with Biden's claim that we're on the verge of oligarchy is that he's simply late. The oligarchy began with Citizens United. We're on the verge of total corporatocracy, at least in part because media outlets stopped reporting on oligarchy risk weeks after Citizens.
Trump is the consequence rather than the cause of the anti-democratic surge.

Here's how the Supreme Court's infamous Citizens United decision — issued 15 years ago today — overwhelmed our political system with money and brought us to our current moment.

In 2023, I listened to an NPR report about a mother fleeing Venezuela with her daughter. She was a lawyer at home, and told NPR that she thought she could build a better life for her daughter in the US and pursue the American dream. A lot stood out in that article. 1/3

What's additionally concerning is that TikTok has always targetted me with radicalizing left wing misinformation and propaganda, but the relative increase in it since inauguration day has been so astonishing that I'm deleting the app.
I'm deeply opposed to the TikTok ban - it isn't a real solution to the real issue of data privacy, the law increases Patriot Act era autocratic tools, and the measure consolidates Meta's market power. That said, it's rough watching some of the uncritical perspectives of American RedNote/XHS users.

Do y'all think I can land special favors from the administration if I promise to pay all my staff bonuses in TRUMP coin?

In before the Enabling Act of 2025.

Never thought I'd see the sieg heil at an American inauguration.
Um. What did I just watch?

Just have to say that the $Trump meme coin is a gift to all of us who are not fans of his.

It’s just a matter of time until a lot of people lose money from this.

I’m a crypto fan. This is not crypto any more than Madoff was just buying and selling shares of stock

The House GOP published their initial overview of potentially fiscal policy changes through multiple committees, laying the basis of staff analysis in the months preceding their first tax and spending bills. They intend to entirely warp the fabric of the American economy. 1/11

Infrastructure that doesn't consider human use (cars aren't people) is bad and civil engineers who don't consider human use should feel bad.
One of the most important model city-building projects in the world.

“Initially, everyone thought it would cause gridlock. But people adapted. Now we can’t imagine the highway ever being here.”

The fantastic people-place that replaced an elevated highway, transforming a city & improving traffic.
‘Everyone thought it would cause gridlock’: the highway that Seoul turned into a stream
Cheonggyecheon stream in the South Korean capital has become an attraction – and helps with flood management, fighting air pollution and cooling the city

I don’t believe one person in his cabinet that says they will respect marriage equality as settled law and leave it alone. Three Supreme Court justices said the same thing about abortion and lied.

There's a lot of chatter surrounding President Biden's farewell address, but I have not seen anyone talk about the last 3 minutes of his speech. Biden tells the story of the "keeper of the flame", the laborer charged with polishing the torch of the Statue of Liberty before calling on the People. 1/5
