your morality and values must be based in something stronger than past victimhood. a history of personal pain does not absolve your eagerness to perpetuate pain and exercise control on others now that you have the chance to be the cool kid, the “in” group.

many leftists are not used to being in the “in” group, and now that they have an “in” group via their progressive community or organizations, they do not realize they perpetuate the same power dynamics that kept them on the outside in the past—

cruelty in individual relationships is not absolved by an instagram graphic, volunteering at a food bank, protesting, etc. a tight-fisted grasp on self-importance, demeaning of others, and creating power imbalances that serve you make you the wolf in sheep’s clothing, the cop at a pride parade.
