Andrew Gant (LibDem, Cutteslowe): “The chaos and shambles and muddle at the heart of this Labour government – they could have been in a position to tell local government what was happening and when, but they haven’t. The Secretary of State has asked about one thing – capacity – and that is there.”

Nigel Chapman (Labour, Northway): “I’m concerned about the long hard struggle to bring the new authority into being. There’s nobody in this chamber who’s had to engage in a change programme of the scale we are now facing… and I can see 7–8 parties in the chamber after an election in 2026.”

This is what the line west of Huddersfield is like. It's a high level line. It arrives in Hudds on a huge viaduct, leaves through a tunnel then it's cuttings, viaducts, hillside embankments, tunnels all the way to Stalybridge. Adding capacity without a new line is hard.

I did not watch the 2024 but I assume that part of the reason the BBC was so crap was their sadness (for whatever reason) at the Fash getting 4 not the exit poll's 10

I was not intending to watch anything to the next morning but I was at a committee meeting that was still going at 2200 and a fellow committee member read out the headline

I feel that "all the good chaps know that they have to band together and oppose or get rid of them" is not quite happening in British politics ATM, or is the hypothesis
A) Farage and his current vehicle are not bad chaps
B) We have until 2019 to observe it playing out
C) other, if so what?
