This is a great distraction!
Meanwhile mine covers US fascism, women's dependent citizenship (SAVE Act), Bonus March (mistreatment of vets), smallpox inoculation (anti-vaxers), Hays code (censorship), Anti-Asian laws, Disability protests, & a slave rebellion 🗃️
It's a different vibe adbl.co/3HEk4q6

I start with the Reynolds Affair (spoiler: there may not have been an affair at all!), then cover seduction novels, the love lives of Aaron Burr and Gouverneur Morris (far spicier than you might expect!), presidential sex scandals, and the 19th century's biggest sex scandal/celebrity trial.

If you're looking for a distraction from the world around us, check out my Great Courses/Audible series Early American Sex Scandals. From the Reynolds Affair to the Beecher-Tilton trial, this is basically early America's hottest gossip (backed up by scholarship)

I've basically been writing this in my head since I was 10, but now it's finally time to unleash it on the world. My book about the golden age of The Simpsons comes out on June 10. Preorder STUPID TV, BE MORE FUNNY here. www.hachettebookgroup.com/titles/alan-...

I tried several but thought I'd look at one more...and you're right, I found some pdf links that didn't work.

I also spent the afternoon downloading html pages with the SingleFile extension along with the pdfs for lessons I might want. Others should probably do the same.

Big thanks to @clancyny.bsky.social for sharing this.

It can be tough to be on social media right now, but this is a good reminder that it's also a tool for community sharing and building.

Yes just checked and posted your link--I wasn't familiar with this resource and it's much better than the usual wayback machine archived versions.
cgoodhistorian.bsky.social
Thanks so much for sharing all this with me! Part of the challenge with these pages is there are lots of pdf's with student worksheets linked, and wayback machine doesn't always get those.

Hi all, do we know if anyone is working on preserving the NEH teaching resource site edsitement.neh.gov
The site is huge, so we need an organization with server space to do it using a scraper tool.

When we get through this, one item on the legislative agenda should be an NEH budget pegged, at, say, 3% of NIH's budget.

My NEH colleagues just heard from DOGE - demanding a 70% reduction in staff. Just obliterating federal funding for the humanities with no ready sources replacing.

These rumors have been confirmed, Blueskis.

I am enraged.

This weekend is the 250th anniversary of Patrick Henry's famous "give me liberty or give me death" speech. I wrote for @smithsonianmag.bsky.social about the famous phrase and its legacy--including its (widely varied) uses by 19thc abolitionists, protestors against covid lockdowns, and Harvey Milk.

Delivered 250 years ago, the famous oration marked the height of Henry's influence. But the politician also served in key roles in Virginia's state government after the American Revolution

A ray of light today—the dedication for Arlington’s first three stumbling stones memorializing those enslaved in this location. Great community & local govt support for this project

Ahh ok. If there are missing webpages, Internet Archive likely has them.

🧵 🗃️ It saddens me to have to bring you news of yet another casualty of the Trump administration's war on any history that does not conform to a white-centered narrative.

For the past few summers I've worked with teachers at Arlington National Cemetery. The historians and educational staff...

It's a small part of an article now under review. There needs to be more work on these, though!

I spend a ridiculous amount of time researching antebellum campaign banners last year. These are seriously understudied; happy to help direct you to sources and other buried examples if you, your students, or colleagues want to do more work on this!

Martin Luther King wasn’t asking people to do community service. He was asking folks to liberate oppressed peoples.

Similar strategy here; reading correspondence of a lesser known women’s rights supporter in mid-19thc. As an added bonus, her writing is saucy & sarcastic.
