The community association has been contacted to discuss establishing or re-establishing neighbourhood watches as part of the city of Ottawa’s Neighbourhood Watch program. As a board, we are looking into it, but wondering if this is a solution in search of a problem. We took a look at the crime rates in our community to see how it compares to other areas, explore other options to increase the safety of our community and get feedback on how we should proceed.

These non-native plants disrupt local habitats, outcompete native vegetation, and pose a serious risk to wildlife. The good news is, we can play a pivotal role in addressing this issue by raising awareness, and taking proactive steps to remove invasive species from our community and our own backyards.

I have been immersed in learning the new program, as I have never been involved at that level as an adult and have been out of the Scouts for a long time. I have been tangentially aware of the problems our kids face as a father of two kids (3 and 7), but I have not taken a deep dive into those issues until now.
