I think I have come to understand the issue with my game development efforts: I'm not trying to make a game, I'm playing a single player game called "game development" that I am playing for my own enjoyment and distraction.

Maybe nothing wrong with that, actually...

Just watched "Flow" and it gave me some pretty serious feels. With all that is going on in the world I feel like the protagonists of the story, having to abandon everything familiar as a dramatic change makes the old way of life impossible, being forcibly cast into unfamiliar shores.

Got some more time this weekend to work on the "helicopter landing" effect on the grass in War of The Wisps, also got the shafts of light effect between the trees working well too.

Dug out old Atari ST and found it still worked just like it did 40 years ago. Many disks appear to have developed bad sectors, but those that run wsork flawlessly.

Playing some of these old games is helping rekindle some of the wonder and joy I felt back then. #retrogames #atarist

FTL made some great games, and "Dungeon Master" was one of them.

The 1st perspective viewpoint, the pseudo-3D graphics that pre-dated "Doom" by years, and the class and leveling system that worked by doing things, not for killing. Plus great level design and puzzles.

I watched a documentary about the making of Stardew Valley, and one of the things that was said was that Barone began to despise his game well into the development of it.

I'm starting to get a similar feeling about CoffeeQuest, which was honestly supposed to be just a way for me to learn gamedev.

Added the gates for the wisps to appear from and added a new wisp type that will actively scan around for you and fire bolts if it sees you.

Next thing to add is the ability to fight back instead of just running. #warofthewisps #godot #indiedev #screenshotsaturday

I think I got the "blinding light" aspect of the Wisps down. Next I need to learn how to have the proximity of the Wisps affect how fast the grass moves. I am thinking it should be like a helicopter landing. #godot #indiedev #wisps #lightandmagic

One of my side projects is "War of the Wisps" which is a remake of "Encounter" from the 80s. My 3D graphics are still really primitive, but the idea I had of the enemies being represented by blinding light is about what I was aiming for.

For #screenshotsaturday here's some game changes:

- Coffee Slimes can now eat Coffee Flowers and get tougher
- Health and Stamina are combined into the Coffee meter.
- Village starts of demolished and all Coffee Kin are "collapsed"
- Main story is to revive the Coffee Kin and rebuild the Village

Kinda got that undulation move they have when they swim but it needs a little work. Still it is indeed a manatee. #seacow
