Don't be fooled by the Neo-Liberal lie that Government debt is the same as the household debt of ordinary citizens.

They are two separate things.

What is the difference between tariffs and VAT? Either ways it’s an additional cost on every item traded, paid by the poor as a bigger total cut of their worth. VAT is worse if you think about. That’s why the tories always increase it.

@mrjamesob.bsky.social we should tax the money that Americans take out of the UK. We only have 10%tarrifs because our deficit with the USA is negative.

I've been researching the idea of Unconditional Universal Basic Income since 2013. Here's a collection of findings I've compiled from various UBI experiments and studies of cash transfer programs around the world.

This will be a VERY LONG and ongoing thread focused entirely on empirical evidence. 🧵

A #BasicIncome doesn't COST society money. It SAVES society money. It's money we're NOT having to put into hospital care, jail stays, shelters, health care, and much more!

So let's tax the rich hoarding record profits and put it back in our communities!

Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1k/month. A year later, nearly half had housing.

They also had fewer ER visits, nights spent in a hospital, and jail stays.

The report estimates that this reduction in public service use SAVED the city $589k.
