People with trauma histories often interpret neutral cues as negative.
"You can come if you want." sounds to them like the person doesn't actually want them to come.
Affirming that you want them there helps remove any doubts.

So I'm poopin right, and as soon as I walk out, Paige is like "okay don't be mad" and i'm like why and she showed the baby the jojo's bizarre adventure season 1 opening and now he's pointing at the TV and just going JOJO TV over and over and all Paige can offer is "I forgot how crazy the intro was!"
