Fascism only works if it has a social base. I wrote a book about efforts across the country to organize predominantly white communities away from this base. How? By showing them their shared stake in fighting for racial and economic justice. The book is out Jan 2026. @surj.org

The media trots out the "deplorable" comment from a decade ago to castigate the left. Once a week now Trump implies that the military should destroy democrats, and it is just how things are.

🚨🚨 My dear friend and fellow academic, the Palestinian American sociologist @emanabdelhadi.bsky.social has been taken by the Cook County Sheriff near Chicago. They have not mirandized her. Please signal boost. All eyes on Broadview for Eman and the community she was defending 🚨🚨

Yesterday was my last day at Columbia University. With my contract up, and my conscience clear, I am proud to say that I will no longer be working for the collaborationists and accommodationists of American academia.

Hey fam, my new book, Read This When Things Fall Apart, comes out in three months. That means now is the critical window for preorders, which help get books on shelves, in libraries, and into the hands of the people who need them most. www.pilsencommunitybooks.com/item/vCQt68D...
The book cover for Read This When Things Fall Apart: Letters to Activists in Crisis, Edited by Kelly Hayes. The book cover features an artistic rendering of a person with long hair wading into a body of water at night in a wilderness.

Critique as you will the NYT. I still very much appreciate the work of Daniel Martinez Hosang and colleague Joseph Lowndes. This interactive seems an accessible and interesting way to present their work, particularly to students.

When democracy challenges their preferred status quo, too many of these folks shamelessly turn to authoritarian tactics to overturn its outcomes. The current climate only emboldens these fascist fools. Those of us who still believe in the promise of democracy must not give up the fight!

Rep. Andy Ogles, a Republican from Tennessee, has sent a letter to Pam Bondi calling for Zohran Mamdani to be stripped of his citizenship and deported.
Andy Ogles: Zohran "little muhammad" Mamdani is an antisemitic, socialist, communist who will destroy the great City of New York. He needs to be DEPORTED. Which is why I am calling for him to be subject to denaturalization proceedings.
Attached is my letter to @AGPamBondi.

“he argued that racism was intended to establish a “nobility of the skin.” Whiteness, Sumner understood, was a class hierarchy—an insight that is still resisted by people on every part of the political spectrum”

wrote about Charles Sumner, someone who proved that racism wasn't somehow natural or unquestioningly accepted in the past—which means it's not natural and shouldn't be accepted today, either. www.everythingishorrible.net/p/charles-su...

I wish someone would make a compilation of all the unusual places, the small towns, rural counties, the South, etc. I went to one of those rallies. It was big. And I don’t think it was an outlier.

This part. There are practical benefits to resistance to disappearing people off the street & they are evident. It’s not that protestors are winning it’s that they’re stopping democracy from losing completely.
resnikoff.bsky.social
It’s blindingly clear at this point that the protestors in Los Angeles are in fact helping to prevent a fascist takeover, and the pundits who suggested that protest is counterproductive were being either stupid or actively malicious.
