RAJU: You swore in 2 GOP members during pro forma session. Why not swear in Grijalva? Does it have to do w/her signature on Epstein petition?

JOHNSON: It has nothing to do with that. We'll swear her in when everybody is back

R: Why not now?

J: Uh - we'll schedule it, I guess, as soon as she wants

Some scoops in here: Adam O'Neal is telling people he will helm The WaPo's flagship opinion podcast, spending upwards of four hours a day on it. He's also indicated, per a source, that he plans to remain in his current job for decades. www.status.news/p/washington...

“What he's doing is contrary to his initial promise. He's ensuring ideological conformity rather than the robust debate he had charted as his path forward," one former Post opinion staffer told me.

A resident of a nearby building asks a very important question:

“You claim you have warrants, but do you have a warrant to seize the entire building?” she asked the agents. “Do you have warrants to detain the entire building?”

Or: do people lose their rights if they live near undocumented people?

There’s a lot in here that deserves a pull quote, but this is the most egregious. I need people to recognize the gravity of the situation here in Chicago;

"The ones that are getting out are coming home to no home," Watson said.
According to her, after the raid occurred, building management stole or threw out residents belongings, including visas and important documents.

ICIRR is still trying to determine the identities of all the people detained in the raid. Castro said that the organization usually can do that by following up with family members or loved ones. "In this instance, there was nobody left to work with," she said. The only detainee name they're sure of is that of a person who passed their Venezuelan passport to a neighbor as they were being taken away.

Oregon Governor Tina Kotek just took back control of the national guard.

She is sending the Oregon national Guard back home and is directing the California national guard to leave the State.

Um, ICE just coldly shot an unarmed PRIEST in the head w a pepper ball when he (and everyone around him) clearly posed no threat.

For the crime of … complaining about government policy.

This is more or less what we’ve come to expect from the chicago tribune editorial board

A fascist dictator is ordering armed troops from another state to invade the city of Chicago, and the Chicago Tribune editorial board reacts by warning Gov. Pritzker and Mayor Johnson to avoid injudicious language. Really.
Editorial: We need our leaders to stay cool as ICE-related chaos gets hot
Provocateurs on the right and left were the story of a chaotic weekend in Chicago. Our political leaders need to reclaim the narrative and cool things down.

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11

This little twerp, who’s been there a few months, axed two of the lions of WaPo??

Fisher is an investigative champion and had been at The Post for 39 years. Hoffman had been there for 42, and he won a Pulitzer LAST YEAR.
oliverdarcy.bsky.social
Last week, new WaPo opinion editor Adam O'Neal quietly carried out another purge of staffers, cutting editors and major names like Marc Fisher and David Hoffman, among others.

Meanwhile, he welcomed three conservatives to the section.

Adam O’Neal says he’s bringing “intellectual diversity” to The Washington Post’s opinion pages—but the moves he’s making behind the scenes tell a different story.

The letter describes what the agents did to Fuentes as an “abuse of power.” Mayor Brandon Johnson, City Clerk, Anna Valencia and City Treasurer Melissa Conyears-Ervin also signed it.

Sinema and Fetterman both did have a long record in office, is the thing.

Like, there were some red flags for both in retrospect, but they also just changed trajectory wildly when they got in the senate in ways that weren't super predictable.
