I had the great honor of writing the introduction to the @enchantedlion.bsky.social edition of Gianni Rodari's Adventures of Cipollino, translated by Antony Shugaar. This expands on that introduction! Huge thanks to Max Nelson for letting me dig into kids' books, produce, and the joy of the absurd.
“It is impossible not to extrapolate freely from Cipollino’s dense materiality, not to transpose our own urgent concerns onto its sly inventions. That we’re mostly dealing with fruits and vegetables shouldn’t discourage…generative projection.” — @markkrotov.bsky.social

I hope New Yorkers take note that Cuomo is the only candidate refusing to stand up to Trump’s goon squad
Gov Hochkul and all the other mayoral candidates (except Cuomo) are now at 26 Federal Plaza demanding that DHS explain why ICE agents brutally assaulted and then arrested the New York Comptroller.
NY Governor Kathy Hochul inside 26 Federal Plaza now, seeking answers from DHS/ICE about the arrest of NYC Comptroller Brad Lander, who is still being detained. @thecity.nyc "How long is this going to take, I don't think he has a long rap sheet," Hochul says to agents.

I still can't get past the idea that people in America are now supposed to accept that this is a valid form of law enforcement and just assume it's fine when random dudes in groups with face-coverings, no ID, no warrant, & no uniform grab people off the street and force them into unmarked vehicles
Not an original point but worth saying again - there is not a single element in this picture that identifies any of these folks as law enforcement agents. No badges, no uniforms, no vests. Out of context it just looks like a bunch of random guys are kidnapping a mayoral candidate.
Breaking News: Brad Lander, the New York City comptroller who is running for mayor, was detained by ICE agents at an immigration court as he tried to escort a migrant out of the courthouse to prevent his arrest. nyti.ms/4jWkANE
