Opened up the depression app and saw my depression rewind and found out I spent 175,000 minutes actively worsening my mental health! Apparently that's more than 75% of depression app users!

They say the BBC often reflects the values of the UK government in power at any given moment, and that checks out because the new season of Doctor Who feels like it's trying to appeal to everyone and making everyone like it less in the process.

It's About Time: The 50s
The 1950s marked a significant transition in music history. In many ways, it was the moment where modern pop music began to take shape, which would come to force out the old guard of laid back and cla...

Why are there no classic albums that came out in 1978 specifically?

1977? Sure, there's loads. 1979? Absolutely. But 1978 is just randomly a black hole for classic albums. Genuinely, did something happen in 1978?

I've finally finished my top 20 albums of 2024. Feels like I'm a little late to the party, but I worked hard to get this out so I hope it can still be valuable to someone #musicsky 🎧 www.chaosincurate.blog/post/chaosin...
chaosincurate's Top 20 Albums of 2024
What an incredible year it's been... Well... For music anyway. We've had the true breakthrough of the new wave of pop music with the likes of Charli xcx, Chappell Roan, and Sabrina Carpenter seeing great success in very different but somehow connected ways (perhaps simply in their unanimous agreement that a mixture of fun and misery is healthier than the zeitgeist constantly bouncing between the two), we've had indie artists that have been on the brink of something amazing finally achieving that

My blog post about some of my highlights in music from 2024 just went live! www.chaosincurate.blog/post/my-favo...

My top 20s for the year are also a few relistens from complete, so I'll be getting to work on them soon too. Hope everyone is having a great holiday season!
My favourites from 2024
As I assemble my top 20 albums and songs from this year, I wanted to take the opportunity to highlight some songs and albums that did a very specific thing well this year. Some of these superlatives will be about the songs more objective qualities, while some will be about how they fit into my broader listening this year, but all of them, I feel, deserve attention for their own unique qualities. If you want to listen to my favourites as you read along, I've made a companion playlist on Apple Mus

I'm not gonna go round spamming it in posts, but you don't even need to pay directly for every album you want to listen to, just switch to a service with less awful payouts and it'll make a huge difference. Most of them will actually be a better service too.
I think I might be a significantly louder asshole this year about why Spotify sucks & you shouldn't support it, especially when you have literally so many other options to listen to music.

Thriller is stupid good, man. It's not only a collection of Michael Jackson's best work on a project-wide level, but I think most of the songs probably make his top 10. Just insane how the album stands out as a legendary album amongst a legends discography purely on the quality of those songs.

I find when talking about wealth like this it's useful to think in terms of lifetimes:

The average Brit will spend around £1.5m-£2m in a lifetime. Using £2mil, this man inherited 325 working class lifetimes worth of money. He gets 67.5 lifetimes a year. His estate is worth 11,000 lifetimes.
King Charles inherited £650m tax free, gets £125m a year tax free from the tax payer and has an estate worth £22bn that’s never taxed.

But he still needed a 45% pay rise.

Like if he needs a pay cut.
