In honor of Edgar Allan Poe's 176th deathday, here are a few of my recent pieces inspired by Poe's works 🫀
Illustration by Abigail Larson depicting a scene from Edgar Allan Poe's poem "Annabel Lee". Two lovers embrace at the edge of the sea, water splashes around them and the surrounding rocks. A full moon shines over them, and storm clouds loom.

Rats have swarmed around him, chewing the ropes that hold him down. This illustration is featured in "Sticker Jigsaw: The Edgar Allan Poe Collection" for Macmillan Books. The narrator is at the center of the image looking up at at raven perched above an open doorway. Behind the narrator is a tall window with red curtains, and the ghost of Lenore lurks nearby. A black cat is watching the scene from the lower right corner.

this is a real family. Sliman Espita, based in Canada, is a journalist; so is his brother, Ibrahim, who I interviewed last year. the funds we raised helped Ibrahim move his family from Egypt (where they fled before the border closed) to Ireland. this GFM is for their brother, Marwan, still in Gaza.

we are not cooked, we are not doomed, and I am comfortable saying here in public that if you are going to insist upon perpetuating the incredibly self-fulfilling idea that we are, I am going to wish you the best with that and unfollow you. you’re only cooked if you lie down in the fucking pot

Your reminder that 29.3% of all revenue from indie bookshops immediately recirculates in the local economy 😊

That's 4x more than Amazon.

When you buy audiobooks through Libro.fm, you're supporting not only your indie, but your local economy.

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Look I get that it's not sexy that the Florida facility was closed via an environmental lawsuit but Al Capone got taken down by tax evasion. Not everything is sexy!

It’s a core First Amendment principle. This is utterly lawless behavior, for which there will be no (short-term) consequences.

Rightly confident in his impunity.
