my Christmas MVP is @sarasbookmacarons.bsky.social, who, with almost no notice, made the most gorgeous batch of macarons for @soundoftheforest.bsky.social. I chose A Girl of the Limberlost for the theme, because it’s the book that inspired Nicole to take up insect preservation. LOOK AT THEM. LOOK

here’s my quick ones from the day I looked at the sun through a telescope for the first time (I was sharing it with like 20 other people and didn’t get much time) how’d I do

a text conversation with my dad about Zohran Mamdani’s acceptance speech. me: did you see Mamdani’s speech? dad: Hell of a speech! Some great lines and inspiring vision. me: I’d love to know how much of it he wrote. we haven’t had speeches like that since Obama dad: I suspect he did a lot on his own, even as he drew on phrases or concepts voiced by others. Of course there was Ghandi [sic] and Debs, but I also heard King, Kennedy, FDR, Malcolm X, and the spirits of the suffragettes, the anti-robber barons, and other labor union leaders of the past two centuries.
