The drain this hostile political propaganda is putting on our mental health must not be underestimated. We're constantly bombarded with division & hatred headlines. We're supposed to keep calm & carry on but we're only human & it's so hurtful. We've got to up the kindness & solidarity. No other way.

My family & I are still processing the events of the past 24hrs. There is so much to say; for now I will keep it brief:

Juan was observing the situation at the ICE detention facility alongside other elected officials. He was in a designated protesting area & was standing peacefully when video shows

Sometimes you have to celebrate the good news, despite all the bad. 🍾🥂

I actually felt the conference was much improved in this arena. I only heard one stigma related remark the whole time.

Same for my trainees. No, it’s for new applications starting this year.
cherilev.bsky.social
Yes. It’s much more specific this year and very clear no one with any professional or clinical training can apply. Very unfair to our trainees who essentially do two degrees.
cherilev.bsky.social
The @nsf has also decided that clinical psychology is not eligible for NSF.

This is a crock of 💩

Clinical psych (actually clinical science) is a RESEARCH degree. Let’s just completely not support research training in mental health then.

Bad bad bad bad decision

Yeah this is really not okay.

Announcing such a major change to NSF GRFP this late in the cycle is incredibly cruel. 2nd yr students (mine included) have been working so hard on their proposals despite ongoing uncertainty. They are driven and passionate about being outstanding scientists and helping those coming up behind them.
This means individuals in the following statuses at the time of application are eligible:

Undergraduate in the final (senior) year of a bachelor’s degree program
Bachelor’s degree-holder with NO enrollment in a graduate degree program (non-degree graduate coursework allowed)
Individual enrolled in a joint bachelor’s-master’s degree program with at least three undergraduate years completed
First-year graduate student in their first graduate degree program with less than one academic year completed in the degree program (according to institution’s academic calendar)
Individuals enrolled in joint bachelor’s-master’s degree programs are considered graduate students. For GRFP, joint bachelor’s-master’s degrees are defined as degrees concurrently pursued and awarded.
Not be a current NSF employee.

Applications that do not meet eligibility requirements will be returned without review as being ineligible for a fellowship.

No kid in America should not have enough food. If we want to feed kids we have to know how many kids need to be fed. Ignoring and avoiding such an important issue will only make it worse.

Spread the word and call your legislators. We can make a difference and keep kids fed.

If the annual food insecurity survey is canceled - the US has no way to monitor how often this experience is happening.

1 in 5 children in Kentucky are food insecure (do not have enough to eat). This is a 48% rise in two years.

Raising the H-1B visa fee to $100,000 risks shutting off the pipeline of highly trained physicians, especially in rural and underserved communities. The AMA stands ready to work with the administration and our partners in medicine to exempt health care workers from this policy.

2025 at an eating disorder conference and folks are still saying things like “they restrict their food and hopefully do lose weight”

Sigh #weightstigma

Middle schoolers should never be on diets

State wide epidemiological survey

Almost 50% of middle schoolers are trying to lose weight

This is NOT okay

I had 3 grant rejections & a rejection for president of an eating disorder organization but I got to share our work with over 100 people - so I’ll count that as a win
