Skarlet,” he cleared his throat, giving her a moment to acknowledge only by the movement of her hands. “… You scared the piss outta me. Thought I’d lose you all over again.”

Kano could only watch, uncertain whether or not she’d want to be touched… Watching the distant look in her eye continue as she glanced at the IV in her arm. He didn’t expect a response, he didn’t need one, seeing her awake was enough. Even still, the vacant stare began to worry him, sitting up slowly to make a trip again through the carnage to pick something up at her request.

Filling her heart where the space laid empty for responsibility, to care for something in ways she never experienced firsthand.

Kano finally inched closer with her permission, not wanting to crowd when Billie held tight against her sore skin. A weak and humorless chuckle left in response to her dreamy musing, despite the layer of fear underneath it. “Kidding me? Pulled her outta ya myself, awfully sure she’s very real…”

Deadly silence was broken by an unfamiliar sounding cry, an agonized yell and the sickening crunch of bone being set back into place when the Cowboy recoiled at the sound. Erron had since abandoned the revolver in a numb palm, his spine curved against the wall where he’d been slumped against. A quiver of his lip from the searing pain of open flesh, blood pooling fast below him until it disappeared. Moisture no longer puddled underneath him, shot nerves suddenly uplifted not by pain but warmth.

Warmth that began slowly, slow to Erron anyways. Creeping and crawling up from his toes to his head, fingers twitching against his lap, against the cold concrete below. His eyes were far too heavy, unwilling to look at himself anyways… Or who — whatever — that thing was…

A rough index finger moved along tufts of dark hair, the infant’s eyes drifting slowly to shut as they settled back in the bedside opposite to Skarlet. Worries were eased, for the most part. A loud pained wince ripped out of the Gunslinger’s throat, the gold of the armlet burning against irritated skin. Erron thought for a moment it would melt into him, his skin sizzling the bright emerald light became. “Lift yourself up!” Shang Tsung scolded loudly, largely ignored as Erron attempted to keep himself grounded, away, “you’ve already ruined my first chance, do not let it happen again!”

His palm slapped against the concrete again, fingers forced to inch further and further, till his control waned once more. Erron’s head spun, agonized noises harmonized the panicked screams in the other room, his eyes shut tight for a moment as a sudden crack hit his ears. Shock had set in, unable to feel where bone had broken in an attempt to force himself in place. Shang Tsung’s push and pull caused blood to begin pooling under numb fingers. The golden snake that wound around his bicep was now split in two, wrenched in half, emeralds missing from the clattering bracelet. Faint glowing since buried within the skin under a jutting bone.
