For several of my friends, this will be the 1st Christmas after losing a loved one. I'm sure there are some of you in the same boat.

I've been there myself, too many times. It's hard in so many ways to deal with a loss like that, especially when ppl all around you are celebrating. This is for you:

I had enough left of the random yarn used for my cozy to work up a hat.

Doubleknitting for the band before starting the larger colourwork sections to avoid a turned-up brim.

Motifs from Selbu Patterns; size US 2 needles.

A double knit hat brim showing both sides - right side predominantly navy with coral, rose, and salmom diamonds and spirals. The reverse is in lighter tones with the same motifs appearing in navy. An additional 2 rows of stranded colourwork have been completed above the brim.

The evil Christmas cat (Jólakötturinn in Icelandic) is the pet of the troll witch Grýla. She is used to threaten naughty children, because she loves to eat them. Grýla's sons are the Jólasveinar, the thirteen Icelandic Santa Clauses, dwarves who originally did not bring gifts, but stole things or played pranks. They are on the move between December 12 and January 6. The day of the Jólakötturinn is December 24. This is when the hungry Christmas cat roams around to steal and eat naughty, lazy children. Only those who wear new clothes, especially new socks, on Christmas Eve are spared. New clothes were a sign that someone had not been lazy, but had spun all the wool from the sheep before winter and made it into clothing. This was important for surviving the cold winters on the inhospitable island. The story of Jólakötturinn should therefore be understood as an invitation to be diligent and to prepare for winter in good time.

Hmmm Day 13 of #ArtAdventCalendar and we return of course to my feathered friends. I've gone for a colourful fella today this Crimson Topaz Hummingbird. Capturing the incredible colours and slight iridescence is never easy, nature really is the best artist!

Twelve princesses 👑
At last, I have finished my drawing! Here it is: ink drawing featuring 12 princesses walking in side profile to the right. They are walking through an orchard that hangs with crystal pears and (were this in color) silver and gold branches. The princess at the front has a lantern. The princess at the back is looking startled over her shoulder.
