Like you can see why when I first heard of Murderbot I was like 'wait this can't be the Martha Wells I'm thinking of' because everyone was talking about it like this was some hot new author and not, you know, a lady who's been putting out books since the early '90s.

The Ghost and Mr. Chicken (1966)

As a white girl from Tennessee, I watched a lot of The Andy Griffith Show, and this features a lot of production staff and actors, filmed after Knotts left the show. My folks liked anything Mayberry adjacent so this was a classic. A rewatch.

The excitable Luther Heggs, wannabe reporter, attempts to spend a night in the supposedly haunted old Simmons mansion that was once the site of a grisly murder.

Luther's piece in the paper, ghostwritten by his colleagues with his input, asserting all the inexplicable things he (and the audience) saw occur in the mansion that night, including a haunted organ that plays all on its own with bloody keys, hidden staircase behind a bookshelf, and a pair of bloody shears stabbed in the portrait of the murder victim Mrs. Simmons.

Luther presents the organ to the judge to prove it plays a haunting melody all by itself.
