If you have kids, I recommend this graphic novel: "Primates: The Fearless Science of Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and Biruté Galdikas" by Jim Ottaviani. Jane Goodall's research and global impact are an inspiring legacy.

I know this exists, but having a kid in high school and looking at the grade outcomes of diploma exams, I don't think that grade inflation is very pronounced in Alberta. www.alberta.ca/system/files...

The first time an Alberta government invoked the notwithstanding clause, public outrage forced a reversal in less than 24 hours. I wish to God Albertans would show the same moral fury now, when school children are outed & bullied by the government that is supposed to protect them. #ableg #abpoli

Alberta introduced policy in July 2025 on disallowing books with "inappropriate sexual content" from school libraries. It's a U.S. playbook. The list of 200 books to be pulled from Edmonton school libraries overlaps considerably with U.S. lists. Background here: opentodebate.org/debate/shoul...

Alberta school boards are moving aggressively to remove books from school libraries, including Margaret Atwood (Handmaid’s Tale), Margaret Laurence, Judy Blume and more. See Edmonton’s list below.

Well, the list of books being banned from EPSB is appalling. And it's very likely that an author on this list will get their other works pulled too, especially in the absence of teacher librarians.

There are books on this list that changed my life. This is what the UCP is taking away from kids.

The precipitous dismantling of humanities - Classics, Religion, Languages and Cultures - is a huge loss for our communities and will limit future grads' global skills. U of Oregon's case makes even less sense than others, since they managed to secure a $25 million donation in 2025. bit.ly/4mjCmwh

The #HockeyCanada verdict today is no exception. The justice system fails victims of sexual assault on a remarkable scale. Most instances are not reported to police. Of the few that are, 1 out of 19 results in the accused person being sentenced to custody. See the Statistics Canada data:

👇New Nature Cities (@nature.com) paper on the impact of protected bike lanes in getting more people cycling.

Comparing 28 US cities over 6 years, it found areas that installed protected lanes saw 𝟭.𝟴𝘅 growth in cycling vs painted lanes alone.

And 𝟰.𝟴𝘅 the growth of areas with no bike lanes at all.
Photo of a mother and her children using brand new cycling infrastructure in Glasgow, Scotland. This is unrelated to the research paper mentioned in the post, which focuses on US cities, but illustrates the exact type of physically separated and protected cycle lanes that remove the stress from cycling, and support more people to get around by bike than any other type of lane (painted or "shared" lanes) for example.
