Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

At What's Alan Watching?, my take on this week's The Lowdown, where Tulsa native Jeanne Tripplehorn moved to the forefront, and the show played with another detective story trope:

Honestly I don't even think jail is appropriate for these guys.

Just force them to live in America as poor people and close off all their economic means for escape.

I know what I can tolerate at work:

smart, but mean: watch your 6, but possible ally through commitment to excellence

stupid, but nice: doesn't know much but has your best interest at heart.

stupid AND mean: irredeemable. leave yesterday.

anyway, good luck to the fine folks at CBS News!

Bari Weiss introduced herself to CBS News staff today on the network's 9AM call, saying she wants to "win," which requires restoring trust to CBS. She also said she was excited for staff to get to know the Free Press, and ended her remarks by saying: "Let's do the fucking news."

They tried to kill this woman because she annoyed them and they are charging because she lived. Her being alive is an assault on them.

Someone saying "Let's do the fucking news" is the ultimate sign that person has never, ever worked in a real newsroom (the fantasyland of the NYT Opinion section doesn't count)

Yeah that's been outré since at least the Obama administration, which I think is when Henry Allen had to leave WaPo after punching a reporter who called him a cocksucker.

Good times.

We recorded this last Wednesday, and remarked on how much would probably change before it's up since there are like a dozen new horrible things every day now.

In the time since then, Border Patrol tear gassed several neighborhoods—and shot a woman:

I feel sorry for those folks.

Kevin Merida would have been perfect to lead a CBS News in an alternate universe where the network hadn't been captured by one asshole called Larry Ellison. And he actually knows how to do the fucking news.
