Maybe narrowly, sure. But we can’t be seen to be sitting back and refusing to do anything about the pain. To be indifferent to it. It’s also a high risk strategy to have asks that would help people but are perceived as too high for the party in power to reasonably meet.

Have some fucking self respect. If we want to help people and we demonstrate that the GOP doesn’t want to and we make them help us do it anyway, they look weak, we look strong, they don’t get the credit. The only way it is bad for us is if you accept the “pain is good for us electorally” frame.

If Dems win the standoff and get their policy demands, yes they will have substantively helped millions of Americans (a good thing, to be clear), but also they will have kept Republicans from a self-inflicted wound in upcoming elections

It seems most Americans still think that what’s happened before and elsewhere couldn’t possibly happen here now. But it can, and it is. Fascism is here. State terrorism against us is going to get more and more violent. And it is not likely to be stopped by waiting for a chance to vote against it.
