One of the 3 core planks of Zohran's platform is universal childcare; as a candidate for NYC mayor, his call is citywide.

But I think 2026 might be the year to push for it statewide—maybe even tie it specifically to the #TaxTheRich campaign, to help build support for the latter.

What do you think?

Finished my first little one page zine on universal child care and it looks so cute! Just need to build out a resource page to go with it. Let me know if it should include you!⬇️
Looking for state, local, and national orgs advocating for universal child care (read: free, available to all families) to include on a resource page for my zine! Hoping there are more than I already know.

URGENT: The Senate tax bill will take food from young children and hurt the child care workforce New York's families rely on. Tell NY's representatives to choose babies over billionaires.

✅ Who defines "efficiency" in early childhood education? Much of what looks like inefficiency to those who are purely looking at the numbers creates a more enriching environment for children to learn and grow.

The child care workforce is the backbone of our economy, but once again New York State is poised to pass a budget that will leave child care educators in poverty, worrying about caring for their own families while supporting ours. Take action now:

Advocates worry that we can't afford to lose child care supply, so it isn't worth the risk of putting up any policy guardrails to prevent bad outcomes associated with profiting off of care. @ehaspel.bsky.social addresses this and more in his new piece:

I believe the most important thing we can do to push back against the forces trying to break our institutions is to hold tight to hope for a better future. I believe that in order to overcome the darkness, we need to put forward a compelling alternative to the status quo.

As I prepared to launch @childcarestories.org, I spent months debating whether I should totally rethink the work I feel called to do. I wondered whether it seemed out of touch to fully orient my work around a joyful, thriving vision for child care in the US. I'm still worried, but now I am resolved.

"As someone who is recognized for having “universal” appeal (manifest in her lucrative, high profile Netflix and Walmart partnerships), Ms. Rachel faces not just financial repercussions but threats to her safety....

Her love for children and her calling as an educator means she cannot be silent."
Talking about the work that inspires me in this difficult week:
➡️ @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social's Child Care For All platform
➡️ Define American's Immigrants Belong toolkit
➡️ The Rights of Every Child initiative
➡️ Ms. Rachel continues to speak out for Palestinian children
Inspiration for a difficult week
As part of my commitment to unapologetically imagine better this year, even in moments where better can feel impossible, I’m going to be making an effort to share more of the work that inspires me.

When we talk about the benefits of child care, sometimes we miss the forest for the trees.

Every community is enriched when we invest in child care.

The Child Tax Credit is important and certainly worth praising, but I am grateful that Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins continuously highlights that the burden of our broken and underfunded child care is a tremendous weight on New York's families.

A state-run substitute pool for child care is so important. I'm glad Governor Hochul is going to make that a reality. But it simply is not enough to build facilities and support substitute workers. If working in child care doesn't pay the bills, new centers are an empty promise.
Ahead of her third SOTS announcement, which will relate to building out childcare in the state, Gov. Hochul is reading to a group of adorable Pre-K kids in Bushwick
