Right okay I’m a queer trans parent ADHD gym rat techie nerd.
It appears that I owe my shins some new ski boots.

- had top surgery!
- handled an acute family medical crisis and then the slow recovery (and did it like a champ, actually)
- did a lot of hiking
- continued raising awesome kids
- got myself set up with life insurance
- worked on taking time for myself
- weathered a metric fuckton of migraines
Quote this with what you have accomplished in 2025, no matter how big or small
Reading & writing has kept me alive this year.

Somehow, it’s been my most productive year as an author.

Here’s a guide to what I’ve published in 2025, in case you’ve lost track.

Individual links below but it’s all on itch: danifinn.itch.io

It is insomnia hours here and it is absolutely DUMPING snow outside my window. Not sure when the lifts will actually open but I’m looking forward to doing ridiculous Foot Sled things once they do.

My friend Melissa invited me to join her on a trail run today and I had a shockingly good time! Brisk walking on the uphills, jogging flats/downhills. It’s one way to make uphills feel like a break! I made it through 4 of our 5 miles before my body declared that I was done with running.

Did you know that they make capsaicin nasal spray that might (or might not) help with migraines? Mine just arrived.

Dear universe: I believed my disabled friends when they told me how badly designed systems are for people with disabilities. I promise. I could have lived without having to learn it firsthand.

Is there some kind of membership card I can get now? A discord for very tired disabled people?

Drove up to the city today to get a migraine eval from a chiropractic neurologist (sounds fake, I know). Ironically, it wiped me out because I'm very much mid-migraine flare and now I feel like I've been hit by a truck.

New proposal: morning doesn’t start until the sun has been up for an hour.

Adjunct proposal: my body lets me sleep until morning, or failing that, at least dawn.

Alternatively, if you have an ironclad Place Your Wallet Must Always Go or else it will Never Be Seen Again, maybe you have AuDHD.
Confused whether you have ADHD or Autism? Take this test:

If you have the same wallet you’ve owned since you were 10, you have Autism

If you have 2 wallets of the same type and one stays in a drawer in case you lose the other one, you have ADHD

I swear to god the two most effective migraine treatment strategies I have are weed and intense exercise

Throwing this out there for the #disability folks - anyone have resources for the science of burnout & recovery, if any? Failing that, I’ll take anecdata about what worked (& didn’t) for you.

All right, I’m playing with fire here, but I’m going ask for medical advice:

anyone have tips on cutting through migraine brain fog?

Ow, my feelings
The witch made him hot chocolate.

"They say I'm strong," he said. "And I am."

He took a sip.

"They say I can overcome any hardship."

"Mm," said the witch.

"And I can. I do."

The witch said nothing.

"But I shouldn't have to!"

"No."

The witch held the hero as he wept.

"No, you shouldn't."

Today we get to find out whether getting blood work done during a migraine/exhaustion episode yields interesting information.

This depends, unfortunately, on me getting my ass to the lab.

I have just finished an 18 year stint of working at the same company.

Now I’m like “oh I’ve started enjoying food again, that’s nice” and then “waaaaait when did I stop” so I think I’ve independently discovered what burnout is like.

Me, unemployed: I could chat with friends. But I could also reschedule those events in favor of napping…

@dieworkwear.bsky.social has taught me a lot about menswear, and it’s been really useful during my gender transition.

Also now I have a well tailored off the rack sport coat, which I feel good wearing with a more casual outfit because it’s a rougher, patterned fabric.

The kind of person I am is that I binge watched Wayward and spent half of it squinting at the scenery before finally confirming yeah, no, this was not filmed in Vermont.

I could NOT have told you what I was seeing to tell me that. Well, not until the rocks. The rocks are all wrong.

This morning Pallas, our simple cat, got herself stuck in one of the drawers in our bed. The meowing was MOST piteous. Francie actually came to bother me on her behalf.

I’m slightly embarrassed to say that Apple TV has now caused me to enjoy shows about first football and now golf. What the hell, dude.

I have thoughts about causing and repairing harm when you can’t necessarily promise to just not do it again. Also on when to fix vs when to step away.
Not sure if this is quite the thing, but there are times when people’s needs just conflict and the way to resolve it is not about apologies and doing better but about deciding “we cannot coexist in [whatever environment] without harming occurring, so I will remove myself from the environment”
